Former Saints player Steve Gleason on life after the NFL (1 Viewer)

no disputing that the play is one of the greatest in Saints history, but is it THE greatest. The Hakim Dropped the ball play was significant. Maybe 1a and 1b.:D

I was upset when he had to retire. He was a solid special teams player.

The only problem I have with the Hakim play being #1 is that technically the Saints were on their way to blowing it again and we had to rely on another team's screwup to secure the win. The Gleason play was all heart and determination to take over the game and was completely engineered by the Saints.

Make sure you read the rest of the article - pretty funny. More good parts:

What's up with Drew Brees' hair?

First of all, I love it. It's bold. And, having had long hair when I was playing, I'm glad some of the fellows are still representing their opportunity to express themselves.
(I can't believe he asked him about Drew's hair, lol)

I guess what I'm trying to say is -- and don't take this the wrong way -- but you're the only NFL player I ever looked at, sized up and thought: I could take him.
I'd like to see that happen.
You want to go outside?
Let's throw down.
Let's do it.
Can we record this?
No. We're definitely going off the record now

Gleason is the man.

What a lot of us might forget is that if Bryan Scott doesn't miss scooping that ball up, he might be the holder of the greatest play in the Saints history. A fumble recovery returned for a touchdown for the first points since Katrina!

i have so many chills right now just thinking bout where i was who and who i was with... gleason is one of my all time fav's

Great post. Gleason captures the moment perfectly. It was pure magic, and I'm glad he has taken it as a validation of his career with the Saints instead of wondering if he could have had a better opportunity. That moment truly transcends time.

me2

Being at that game was one of the most amazing evenings EVAR.

Yup.

I had such a natural high. We walked down to the W to meet some people before our march to Bourbon following the victory.

My cousin got me a water and I chugged it. He looked at me like "dude"

and I was like, "ahh I needed a water, thx"

he was like "dude, that was vodka"

And I was like "oh.....really? Hrm I couldn't tell"

Saints power

That game is one of those things that in the future more than 200,000 people will say they were at that game. Good thing I still got that gold ticket to prove it ;)

That blocked punt was like opening the levee holding back the repressed pain and sadness of what had occurred in our dome, in our city, and in our family after living as refugees for so many months. It didn't take away our rebuilding reality, but right off the bat of that night it funneled that repressed energy into a moment gushing out in tears of a hybrid joy and sadness of every seat in that dome and every set of re-located eyes watching around America to say, "We are here. We are stronger than you think and we will survive." That was so much more than a football play.

Maybe there is some bit of hyperbole in what I am trying to express, but think about the feeling in your heart when you watch that replay, do you not well up inside?

We are New Orleans.

It makes me feel lucky to know I was in that Dome for probably the 3 biggest moments in the team's history:

Hakim drops the ball!=1st playoff win

Gleason's punt block= 'nuff said

Deuce picking up the 1st down against the Eagles= sealing our 1st trip to the NFCCG

That's a good 3 you have there. I was there for 2 of them. Missed the reopening.
