Frank Gore to retire a 49er: The Frank Gore Appreciation thread (1 Viewer)

Congrats to Gore on a great career.
Man, as we continue to watch these guys retire and all the new players coming in and taking over at different positions, the league just feels very different. I am beginning to better understand people like my dad who is able to enjoy the NFL now for what it is, but will always say it’s nothing like back in the day. Same with NBA fans who never really left the Magic, Bird, and Jordan eras.
Makes me wonder if my golden era of the NFL ranges from the mid 90s to 2011. I know that’s pretty random, but if I’m being honest, my excitement for the NFL really started declining after the 2011 season and it really hasn’t come back since. I’ve been ridiculously detached over the last 3-5 years. It’s crazy.

Gore's name is generally not mentioned in 'Greatest of all times' conversation, but he will retire number 3 all time in regards to total career yards, behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton. A brief list of accomplishments would include 5 pro bowls, 9 seasons with 1K or more rushing yards, and 2 more seasons he only needed about 30 yards to make 1K. After his rookie campaign he had 13 consecutive seasons of 1K or more Yards from Scrimmage (rushing and receiving). Despite never winning a rushing title, or a super bowl, Gore will end with 3 greatest all time rushing career totals. He probably will not be a first ballet HOFer, but I think he should be. He played the position that generally has the shortest shelf life and lasted for 16 years in the NFL. To put his longevity in perspective, when he got in the league, George W Bush was president. His career spanned GWB, two Barack Obama presidential terms, Donald Trump's presidency, and into Joe Biden's administration. Simply remarkable.

Show Gore some love on his way out!

Someone needs to bring him back and throw him a 15 yard pass (and ONLY a 15 yard pass) for a TD so he finishes with exactly 16,000 rushing, 4,000 yards receiving, 20,000 total yards and 100 total TD's.
