i have a fire pt in my back yard and i usually burn them when i get enough, so i don't have to break them down.
But sometimes if i deide to throw them in the garbage can, i break them down, fold them up as small as possoble and put some tape around it so it stays compact and doesn't take up as much space in the garbage can (usually mostly Pizza boxes). My wife makes fun of me for that, but she;s not the one taking out the garbage..

I kinda do the same...except for the trash thing. I burn them all. Gives me a reason to make fire and drink a beer around it.
