I saw a thread started for Transformers and Star Trek, so I didn't want Gen. Hawk and Wet Suit to feel left out. I read that they were going to add a lot of background story to the characters, but it looks like they're not going to stray to far from the 80's cartoon.

At first, I thought it was just another cheesy action flick, until I realized it was a G.I. Joe movie. Then, I kinda got really into it. And to think, Voltron is coming up too.

I always liked Snake Eyes and to a lesser extent Storm Shadow, even if he was on Cobra's side for quite a long period of time and he mistakenly thought Snake Eyes had killed his martial arts teacher and master.

He came around though in the end however. Snake Eyes is hands down the best ninja/CIA spy/Joe their is. No Cobra warrior could beat him, or for that matter very few Joe's. He is that good and that deadly. Uncanny deadly too. I often wonder if their are types like him in the CIA even now or in the past, because if their are, I'd much rather not meet them in any fashion.

I saw the preview yesterday before slumdog. ehh it looks alright, nothing that excites me. All these action hero movies are all just cookie cutter films anymore.

Personally, I am looking forward to it, because it is GI Joe. But I don't have high expectations. I don't like the uniformed, SWAT team look. I hate that Destro has no mask. They changed Ripcord's race. There are some casting reservations I have and how the choices will fit with the comic's conception of the characters.

I don't know which background you're talking about - if you mean Hama, I don't know how faithful they'll be to his work. I've already heard whispers about some pretty significant departures.

I'm stuck between trying to find out as much as I can about the film and not being spoiled.

But I'll see it, that's for certain.

They've released the new posters as well.

And for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fans - you should check out the Silent issue. Storm Shadow's first appearance.

Yeah, I saw they had changed Ripcord's race, which didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Also, he's suppose to have a mad crush on Scarlett. I didn't even know Destro wasn't going to wear a mask; it seems like that would be just wrong. Oh well, it could be the worst movie in the world and I'd still watch it. I mean, I did make it through the Street Fighter movie and Jean Claude Van Dam it was bad.

but I doubt it because the mask is a family heirloom of sorts going back several generations to an ancestor that was forced to wear it as a punishment for crimes against the state. There's an episode of the cartoon in which lady Jaye goes to visit the castle of her ancestors and runs into Lady Jaye there.

In that episode you find out more about the mask and how it came to be on Destro's face all the time.

Then, in the Devil's Due comic that brought the franchise back to the comic world, Destro's son uses the mask as part of an attempt to pass himself off as his father. You find out a bit more about the mask there, too. Although it's not quite the same storyline.

So I am hoping that they find a way to incorporate the mask somehow, because it was so metonymical with Destro - it's iconic - that I would've expected Eccleston to be wearing the mask at all times. And I've yet to see it once.

I'm hoping, though, that there's a surprise in store and he'll end up donning it before the credits roll.
