Do you think the Saints cover the 14 point spread on MNF in Green Bay?
Green Bay is the example of a young team from drafting well. They will use us as a speed bump. Get ready to see how the corners are. And< Green Bay drafted their Oline, while we were picking Ruiz, Saldivieri and Penning. We traded up for Saldivieri so he cost more than one pick. I hope we re improving, but Ruiz has been getting ppl killed...

I think we should cover but I’m a little worried about it. Not sure how cold it will be but Jacobs has been a monster running the ball and our run defense is severely lacking. Plus we like to play man and a little concerned about the footing for our dbacks and their effort level if it’s miserably cold.

Green Bay had a long tradition of not using free agency and relying on the draft, and it was quite successful. Wonder if any of their scouts would prefer a warmer climate.

The Packers had 11 picks in the 2024 draft, 13 picks in 2023, 11 picks in 2022, 9 picks in 2021, and 9 picks in 2020. 53 picks over the last 5 years.

The Saints in that same time frame have made 29 picks.

They're drafting almost double the amount of players the Saints do every year.

The Eagles have drafted 40 players over the last five years, the Ravens have drafted 44 players over the last five years.

I've said it before, I'll say it again and again, the draft is just buying raffle tickets and the more tickets you have the better your odds of getting players worth keeping. All these teams everyone worships as being great drafters always show up to the draft with a plethora of picks while we're over here shocked if the Saints finish a draft with the same picks they started with and didn't give up any future picks.

Really good points. It’s high time for a change in how the Saints approach the draft.

Exactly, the draft on every player is a 50/50 prop so the more prospects you bring in over time the more likely your hit rate is going to go up. There is nothing wrong with moving up to get someone but you don’t want to be moving to far and you better be sure you hit on what you move up for. We have just missed and that’s compounded by each move is costing additional prospects coming into the building. That’s where the depth monster rears its ugly head. We are essentially sacrificing depth and development of depth to wiff on a prospect. We are forever cash strapped so we try to offset the loss in depth with bargain bin free agents, cast offs and retreads. This is why when injuries happen we are usually screwed because oft times the replacement player is usually themselves an oft injured player.

Building via the draft is how you successfully build a roster see: Pitt, GB, Philly, KC, Baltimore. There are reasons that group of teams is always in the mix or if they are down one a year they are right back up the next year. They focus on development via the draft. You end up with a well rounded deep roster that can whether injuries.

Ruiz and udoh are like a acrobat team. I never seen big men get tossed pushed and shoved around like those two guys. Saldiveri my gosh he miss people directly in front of him not even a pinky touch. Forget cleets our guards should wear the wrestling boots up to the knee.

Lamar Jackson 2018 draft pick 32
Jordan Love 2020 draft pick 26
Jalen Hurts 2020 draft pick 53

The Saints passed on all three when they had the opportunity.

It doesn’t matter how many picks they have unless they start using the picks wisely. They have wasted multiple picks on plenty positions including RB, but refuse to even use one premium pick on a QB. Loomis received a first round draft pick for Sean Payton, yet Payton already has a first round QB while the Saints have Derek Carr and a fifth round QB that we hope turns out to be first round talent.

Then, when they do hit on draft picks they have trouble keeping them when their contract comes up because of the salary cap strategy. The team is flat out terribly managed.
