I still would like to see the attitude of the coaches change to a more aggressive approach of finishing a game. I'd like to see a no prevent defense and a finish the game attitude from
the offense. Something to just take the will out of the other team. DA got too conservative. You can't win against good teams with that mindset. Again a good win.

I thought the offensive playcalling got a little too conservative later in the game - which analytics probably supported - but then they took the deep shot to Olave.

I don’t love prevent defenses but this was such a lopsided game that a slow ending of forcing the other team to consume time isn’t a bad strategy. It’s terrible in a close game, though.

The problem I always have with teams that get a big lead is that... You KNOW the other team is going to be passing 95% of the time so why not bring constant blitzes? I would much rather see that than a soft prevent defense.

Outside of adding more motion, healthier Carr, and less stupid plays. It didn't feel the offense didn't change a whole bunch besides playing a way worse team.

Granted... it takes weeks for those kind of changes to happen. It's definitely a process moreso instant gratification.

We'll see how next week shake out.

I don't think we got conservative at all. We tried to hang 40 on their head, but Olave couldn't hang on to the TD catch. As the poster above me stated, our defense stayed aggressive with their gameplan and completely dominated until the final whistle. It was a great game against a lesser opponent. Good teams don't play down to their competition, so it was nice to see a beat down.

If you know for sure they will be passing every down and distance and every series should be in four down territory, blitzing every down can be a recipe for disaster. Watch your lead fade away when Jones starts connecting on some of those longer throws he missed early on, or when guys get huge YAC opportunities with most of the defense behind them. With a practically four score lead early in the game (Patriots needed three successful two point conversions down 24-0) it’s ok to make your opponent spend 5-6 minutes per drive to get a few points if they can get them at all.

All defenses go into a “prevent” style when the clock and the lead call for it. The clock becomes a weapon your defense didn’t have when the score was closer and/or there was more time on the clock. And the other team loses the ability to stay balanced with the run (because of the clock), so no reason to keep a bunch of guys lurking around in the box when our front four were getting consistent pressure.

lol I don't think we had to worry about Jones connecting any time soon in that game.

Much better game but I believe that we left points on the field because of either offensive play calling or Carr decision making. If we want to be a legitimate playoff team, we will have to capitalize on those opportunities. That said, this game is something to build on offensively.

I don’t believe they went full prevent toward the end of the game:

Probably not, but he will have larger windows to throw into. It’s just not worth the risk, on 1st and 10 a simple slant can turn into a house call with a missed tackle if we are blitzing. Blitzes are better on later downs when the distance from the sticks start to limit the offense’s options on route combinations.

Just curious…..did you actually see a drive that we went true prevent, or is this just something you post without actual facts.

Their LONGEST 2nd half drive was 35 yards…..and they didn’t have another one that even went 10 yards.

On 8 drives.

Now which one of these were “prevent”?
