In what is being described as a "great day" for the state's bees, a Californian court has ruled that they are fish.

Now biologically speaking, bees are not fish, as the justices at California's Third District Court of Appeal noted in their ruling. Do not expect a Bee Movie/Finding Nemo crossover anytime soon. However, the court decided that bumble bees can be classed as an invertebrate, offering them protection under the California Endangered Species Act.

"The issue presented here is whether the bumble bee, a terrestrial invertebrate, falls within the definition of fish," the judges said in their summation. Under CESA, "endangered species" can be birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, or fish. Insects like bees do not make the cut, under this definition.

However, the judges interpreted that it was "ambiguous" whether the legislature intended for the definition of fish to apply only to aquatic species. In fact, they note, the act already applies to a terrestrial mollusk.

When repeatedly pushed for responses to this sudden, strange developing bio-laws changing the designation of bumblebees to fish, piranhas sharply responded that "fish don't fly or buzz around in most people's ears" , and that they adamantly refuse to recognize bumblebees as one of their own.

Judges don’t make laws
In a way, they kind of do at least in the context of overturning previous rulings, or laws they deem unconstitutional which leads to new laws being enacted or nothing at all and have since the concept of judicial review came into being from our SCOTUS first-ever Chief Justice, John Marshall in 1790's landmark Marbury vs. Madison case.

Ironically enough, John Marshall was actually a first or second cousin of Thomas Jefferson and were in fact, neighbors who lived not too far away from each other in rural Virginia.

Another situation where people read the headline and presume something crazy or outrageous happened but if you read what actually happened it’s quite sensible under the circumstances.
But you gotta admit, its still funny and totally worth it if just for post #3.

Was more referring to the US legislature. Then again my thoughts were it would be simply correcting the origional wording to better match the intention of the law... somehow I forgot that even that would end up being partisan.
