In those grainy NFL Films of old, there have been unforgettable snippets of the greatest middle linebackers of all time.
The toothless image of a blood-splattered Ray Nitschke of the Packers intercepting a pass and limping into the end zone for a score; the gnarled, taped hands of Chicago's Dick Butkus viciously taking down an unsuspecting ball carrier; the wide, darting eyes of the Bears' Mike Singletary zeroing on his next victim; the cerebral visage of the Saints' Sam Mills presciently shouting out to his teammates what was about to transpire.
And don't forget the leering, maniacal ramblings of Ravens middle backer Ray Lewis, a staple of that daunting Baltimore defense that has been the signature of a franchise that won a Super Bowl at the outset of this decade. Full Story - Times Picayune
