Has Saldiveri fallen down the depth chart? (2 Viewers)

And Evans was too, so this idea that we always drafted tackles to be tackles and guards to be guards is wrong, we literally drafted two tackles and moved them to guard where they were All Pro's.
Yeah I never commented on that. As I stated I just wish we could find the person who helped us find TA CN JE and ZS.

The Saints have been bad at drafting any sort of Lineman (offense or defense) lately.... Mostly because they have put measurables ahead of visible production. (and yes, I know there is an exception or 2... overall... it's been bad for a while)
Agree, they shoot for the fences every draft on measurables and what could be rather than draft a solid producer. Our lone is the result of multiple back picks and lack of free agency pickups. At this point serviceable would be good. Most teams don’t skip a beat or adjust if they lose an onlineman, the saints just self destruct.

This isn't just a Saints problem. This is an NFL problem. All NFL teams have no depth on the OL and the vast majority don't even have 5 solid starters. The problem is that they aren't being developed in college because so many teams play spread, read option, and RPO.

Guys like Fuaga who played in a pro-style system are rare so you have to project these guys to NFL systems and try to develop them.

Yes, but that doesn't fit the narrative that after a loss that everything the Saints do sucks.

Did you see what happened to Atlanta last night after injuries on the OL? They skipped quite a few beats. The vast majority of teams in the NFL have bad Offensive Lines and are one injury away from falling apart on the line.

The Saints should invest more resources in the line but they are not alone in lack of depth on the OL.

A big problem is the Saints reliance on the draft.

At the end of the day the draft is and always will be a total crap shoot. You miss way more than you hit and that's for every position regardless of how you draft. There are no guarantees and that's why guys who establish themselves as proven commodities don't come cheap. It is hard to get good free agents when you're not the highest bidder and not a perennial Super Bowl contender. Probably why Loomis talked about slowly walking down much deep the Saints get into the red every year.

Lol. You do realize that Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks were Tackles in college.

I do and I don't care because at the end of the day the draft is just having a bunch of lottery tickets and praying to have some winners. Can't miss products who flame out, guys who don't get drafted becoming critical starters, every team has a sea of players who on paper were locks and instead flamed out like Bryce Young trying to ride a roller coaster without his parents.

Dude. You said we were good at drafting OL back then because we weren't drafting Tackles to play Guard and Centers to play Guard. But probably the best two Guards to ever play for the Saints who were drafted back then were Tackles in college that moved to Guard.

So, whether you care or not, your statement was incorrect. And what the hell does Bryce Young have to do with that?

The truth is our Super Bowl team was largely founded on "lottery picks" like taking a chance on injured Drew Brees, moving Nicks and Evans from Tackle to Guard, keeping an UDFA RB over a 4th round pick RB, and starting a 7th round pick WR.

And frankly the only way to win in the NFL is to be good at drafting and rely on the draft. You can't build a team in free agency due to the cap.

Oh no I was wrong about Nicks and Evans, and? Dang I don't bat 1.000 on the internet. I must live with this shame forever.

Also I enjoy making fun of Bryce Young because the entire situation around his drafting and performance is just funny to me, the same way I enjoy laughing at the various ways Atlanta faceplants.

I'm not shaming you. It's that you refused to acknowledge it and claimed that it didn't matter to your point when it directly contradicted you claim that we were better at drafting OL when we didn't draft Tackles and move them to Guard.

It's okay to be wrong and admit it regardless if you are on the internet or not. It's really not a big deal.

I think the point is that we've been hit and miss projecting players to certain spots on the line and I think that's a fair criticism. I'd be nice to draft like we did with Fuaga all the time, granted even he switched sides.

With Big Carl and Jahri, we took later round flyers on a couple of guys that ended up working out. I couldn't count how many others didn't work out. And I have zero problem with that. The Andrus Peat and Penning type players in the first round are of much greater concern because they were technically misses that we found a use for outside of the original vision.

I just don't recall a lot of guys that failed when we moved them to a new position. Penning is actually better at RT than he was at LT and Fuaga looks very good at LT. Ruiz hasn't been good, but I don't think he would have been better at Center. And the jury is still out on Saldiveri who just can't stay healthy enough to practice in order to develop to the point that the might be able to play.

On the other hand you have Evans and Nicks who were huge successes.

Who am I missing that failed after a position move?

If the point is that Ruiz and Penning were reaches and they need to do a better job building the OL and drafting in general, then I don't disagree with you, but I don't the failure to have a better OL has anything to do with moving players to a new position and, as I said, Penning actually looks better at RT. Even Young who was drafted as and played RT actually has looked better at Guard.

That is the point. I don't think the team has done very good in first round with lineman, with Fuaga as the exception so far. Fuaga played RT in college and was good enough to move to LT. That's a good problem to have. Penning was projected to be an immediate starter at LT after losing Terron and we are now salvaging that with him at RT. Peat was supposed to be a RT, but couldn't play there and we salvaged him by moving him to LG. At this point I think the team is better at salvaging players than drafting them at their projected positions.
