Venturi will always have a soft spot in my heart because, IIRC, he was the only one who would step in as interim coach after Jim Mora bailed out.

Be that as it may, he just didn’t have it as a coach @ the NFL level.

Agreed he is a great guy, but his record at Northwestern wasn’t good either. (College level)

We had far better defensive coaching in the Mora years, though I do like the staff we have here. Only thing holding them back is Dennis Allen being a protege of Gregg Williams.

Reggie Wayne last night was raving about Curtis Johnson. He said Michael Thomas under Curtis Johnson will be a Top 5 WR in the league.

I've wondered for a few years if Reggie Wayne would go into coaching and possibly come here. He is a NOLA native after all and grew up idolizing Eric Martin. He's always had great things to say about us.

Steve Sidwell never got the credit he deserved, esp after Mora threw him under the bus. After the Saints he never really made a mark in the NFL. He did have a few DC jobs, but never got back to the top.

Given where we are today (in preparation for the NFCCG), I think this ^^ may need some modification.

Finks had some good drafts, but I don't remember a stronger Saints team, top to bottom, than what we have this year.

Whatever Payton, Loomis, and Ireland have cooking, I hope they keep it up for a long time...

While this certainly true, the overall talent Finks brought in compared to Payton/Loomis/Ireland isn’t close. Those Finks Mora teams were fringe playoff teams that never even eon a game (despite the majority of them played in the dome).
