My expectations have sadly changed as I’ve concluded that this team continues to be seriously flawed, starting with coaching. I thought going into the season that we would almost certainly be a Division winner, but now have serious doubts that we can overcome TB and maybe even the Birds. Hope I am wrong but performance to date does not give me hope!

Of course my expectations have changed. They play to win the SUPER BOWL. Not win a game, or win the division. The problem I think now is most people see that they're are leaks in this team more than fans wanted and more than we anticipated. Which points to management, and to make changes in that way take time. Sometimes years. This offense is terrible. Whatever the problem is. Coaching, QB, offensive line. The offense is just terrible. We cannot win if we cannot score points, and unfortunately it seems like it's getting worse each game. Which means this coaching staff has no answer on how to fix it.

I had no real expectations for this season so no, they haven't changed.

This is what 99% of NFL franchises go through when their future first ballot Hall of Fame record shattering most prolific passer in history Super Bowl Champion MVP Quarterback and innovative potential Hall of Fame most winning coach in franchise history Super Bowl Champion Head Coach leave.

I had us winning the division before this season started. The way we look now will be lucky to be close to .500. We're not going to win many games averaging less than 19 points a game. The defense is good But they aren't going to be able to hold opponents to under 17 to 20 points every game and so far we have not shown that we can score more than that.

Well with our schedule, figured the defense would be good enough to overshadow the poor coaching on offense to the point where we would have to watch Carmichael offense in 2024.... guessing that shouldn't happen now but not sure Gale or Allen will replace him Carmichael would have to quit

Mine have completely changed for a couple of reasons.

I have lost complete faith that the offense will be anything but a frustrating mess the entire season. I was hopeful that the first couple of weeks were just rust but now it’s clear that Carr is average, at best and the offense is too stale and predictable to challenge even average defenses.

Also, I assumed the Bucs would be bad without Brady and coming off two sub-mediocre seasons. I think they look better than they did for Brady’s final 2 seasons. Baker Mayfield is finally in a place that can play to his strengths (roll out timing routes and occasional run/pass options). Also their defense is playing at a fairly high level. I think the division isn’t as open as I was expecting it to be before the season.

I am developing a sense of apathy that I have not felt since the Ditka years. I no longer feel like the people in charge know how to or have the guts to make the drastic changes that need to be made.

I’m now quite pessimistic about things.

It’s a real bummer to feel that way in early October.

Was expecting 12/5 at start of season, 10/7 at the very worst
Now more like 7/10
But there is always one team who look awful at the start of the season then turn it on halfway through, hoping we are that the team this year, we sure have the weapons for it

I know I’m probably crazy and will likely get clowned … but somehow I still believe there’s time to turn things around … OL needs tightening up and I’m unsure of who should be playing QB … but somehow I still believe we can turn it around … maybe because I can’t believe we’re as bad as we’ve looked

None of the above. Our schedule is easy, and we will beat half of the bad teams we play. Finish 8-9, coaches keep jobs.

During November-December this forum is dominated by "tank" v. "win-now" arguments. Neither get what they want.

I just hope we beat the Falcons.

I'm just hoping to score some touchdowns, that's all.

Aside from that, just focused on Rashid and Olave continued development. Penning development. Howden, Taylor, Foskey, Bresee development. In short, hoping our young core continues to get better. Would also love to see Alvin score some touchdowns. He was once on a Hall of Fame path and projected to be over 125 touchdowns from scrimmage. He'll be the all-time Saints leader this season (so I hope, that should have happened last year)

I'm just enjoying Saints Football and even though the offense lacks creativity I enjoy watching the working parts (Carr, Kamara, Williams, Miller, Thomas, Olave, Shaheed, Johnson, Moreau, Hill) and the defensive parts (Jordan, Granderson, Bresee, Davis, Werner, Lattimore, Adebo, Taylor, Honey Badger) makes for enjoyable football Sundays with so many people to cheer for.....
Is this sarcasm? Surely, this has to be sarcasm. None of the offense can be considered a working part, given the level of talent it’s some of the worst stuff I’ve seen. Also, each to their own but how anyone can find watching this version of the Saints enjoyable I do not know.

So what are y’alls expectations now? Have they changed for you at all? If they haven’t changed, what would it take to change your mind?
  • Somewhere around .500 with no chance of playoff birth
(Saints are like a very old Ferrari where only 4 spark plugs are firing and the timing needs to be set properly...)

(And there's a very bad smell coming from the glove compartment from things left behind by management...)

ETA: From a thread in August about the upcoming season: https://saintsreport.com/threads/ho...he-upcoming-saints-season.495275/post-9275239

I was skeptical since DA and crew are still in charge...

The season is about what I expected because DA and PC are still here. DA brought in “his” players and assistants. Nothing changed.
In the preseason poll, I voted no improvement over last year’s record. Dennis Allen has shown me that he cannot win games in the 4th Quarter. The GB game was much like the TB game from last year where he lost the playoff berth in the last 4 mins. He almost coached us to a loss in the Carolina game.
Unless he makes major changes, this is another lost season.
