Well not the actual healthcare but more like administration. I got a bill from a local hospital group saying that I owe $5.00. I got on their website and couldn’t pay it because the statement doesn’t include some sort of code they require. I called the phone number on the statement and they wanted $5.00 to pay by phone.
No thanks, they’ll get it at some point.
Ochsner sent me a letter saying that their records show I am owed a refund of $52.00. They want me to fill out a form indicating that yes, they do owe me or no, they don’t.
No information as to how this came up.
No wonder hospitals in this state are having a rough time financially.

The medical system definitely needs an overhaul, but it's all about the dollars first, and healthcare second.

As far as failing hospitals, it has a lot to do with uninsured migrants, and under insured Americans. Americans file chapter 11 when they can't pay, and illegal immigrants I'm guessing there isn't an alternative for them, but to get the care they need, and skip out on paying. These are over simplified conclusions, but it does scratch the surface of the problem.

I could share my own concerns with insurance companies failing to provide service, but bottom line, it's a cat and mouse game. Insurance companies are in business, their job is to stay in business and increase profits, which could influence whether or not treatment is granted to their customers.

I think the only real way to improve the system is to loosen requirements for non emergencies for medical training, and maybe have technicians do simple surgeries, instead of having a $500,000 schooling program. Maybe keep the high end training for neurologist, heart surgeons, and more complicated operations, but basic surgeries have a lower threshold of schooling.

I really believe a technician could do most of the common dental work, like fillings, cleanings, x-ray, and x-ray diagnosis. It's not rocket science, but the medical and dental system have very strong "unions".

Anyways, medical billing is boarder line mafia world.

I don't think it will change for the better, if there is a change, it will probably only get worse, so just be thankful there is some sort of medical care now.

Our system used to be based on the idea that its high cost came with the world’s best care and results. It’s just not true anymore.

Every other developed nation, bar none, does a better job than us. Many UNdeveloped nations beat us silly.

Hassle free, decent healthcare can be done. You just have to understand that it's NOT a free market, so free market solutions will never work.
