How much say or input does the staff have on players? I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. Thinking back to when SP was here I have no doubt he controlled every aspect of the offense. He decided who started at OL, WR, TE, etc. and it was the position coaches job to coach them up. But did he do the same with defense? Or did he allow the DC to decide who the best corners and linebackers were? Moving someone from outside corner to nickle on 3rd downs, was that’s a DC call or SP call?

And that has me thinking about some of the personnel decisions made this year. While ultimately they are on DA, my question is, are they 100% on him? Let’s take the lutz/grupe decision. Did DA watch them at practice and training camp and say we are going with the rookie and inform rizzi of that choice. Did ML approach DA and say we have an offer for lutz and we are moving him. Was it rizzi that sat down with DA and said hey I think this rookie is the way to go and then the saints looked at moving lutz. I honestly don’t know and would like to hear other’s opinions.

Just trying to gauge if our position coaches are looking bad because DA doesn’t listen to them and doesn’t go with their suggestions or if DA hiring a bad staff is the culprit.

I just used the kicker situation as an example. Wouldn’t mind hearing people’s thoughts on punter, penning, not using jimmy, etc. Just curious.

I think that’s different for every team depending on the people involved.
