A slightly different take. No, I do not think that the Falcons offense will become the best in the conference or the best in the division. But it can take a step forward. Ryan is currently a top 12 quarterback, and Smith is one of the better head coaches in the league.

This is going to be a tough division this year.

I can agree with some of what Bucky writes, and I disagree with other items...

1. Matt Ryan will raise his level of play under Koetter.
comment: Well, Ryan does have a lot of talent surrounding him at this point. Adding Julio Jones, despite the heavy price that the Falcons paid, is adding a big time talent, no question about that...Counting on significant improvement from Ryan though, seems a bit of a stretch. Frankly, I think Ryan's average arm strength limits his upside, but we'll see.

Roddy White and Julio Jones will get the ball on the move.
comments: moving to a less vertical passing game is probably a good idea, as it fits Ryan's lack of arm strength better, and both White and Jones should be good RAC Wrs with their size/speed.

Jacquizz Rodgers will become a key contributor as a hybrid player in the backfield.
comments: I think Bucky is really reaching here. Rodgers is small and slow. Quick yes. But he's a guy that just tiptoes the line between college and pros, quick enough to be a great college RB, too slow to be a great pro.

The screen pass will become a priority in the game plan.
comments: The Falcons commitment to the screen game is an outgrowth of their paying such a high price for J. Jones and having to neglect other areas of the team, namely the offensive line. This is the tradeoff for acquiring Jones. If the screen game becomes a priority it's because the Falcons have to make it a priority (to cover for their O-Line and slow down the opponent's DL rush), not because they want to make it a priority.

The Falcons' offensive line will be tougher in 2012.
comments: I really like the addition of Pat Hill. He's an excellent coach. But this is the NFL, and talent matters. And the Falcons have no talent on their offensive line. Their offensive line is, well, offensive.
