I would love to see how far the Saints would go with a coach that the players obviously love to play for like the Lions obviously do in Campbell. Maybe he’d light a fire under Carr to go beyond his abilities and play better. Just a thought.

Results depends on who Campbell would have as OC and if he had good run blocking coaches here.

If he had the same OC that we just fired and the same Saints OL/RB coaches coordinating our run game, there wouldn’t be any difference in wins.

Campbell has really good coaches on his staff at OC and OL. Thats the main difference beyond the motivational tactics.

If Loomis had an early inclination that Sean Payton might retire soon, it would have been nice if he had offered Dan Campbell a contract similar to what the Patriots did with Jerod Mayo.

Oh well …

With the same staff and roster? Maybe 2 more regular season wins, 1 playoff win at best. Maybe worse than that since he doesn't have Ben Johnson in this hypothetical and the defense could reasonably be worse without DA.

Since a lot of posters here didn't even want us to make the playoffs at the end of the year because they thought we'd be guaranteed an early exit, it's about a wash with Campbell.

I like Campbell but let's look closely. He's kind of like the Ed Ogeron of the NFL. He has maybe the best OC in the league and hottest HC candidate in Johnson. He has a very good DC and HC candidate in Glenn.
They got 2#1's a #3 and Goff for Stafford
in 21 they had the #7 and 41 pick, Sewell and Onwuzurike
in 22 they had #2,12 and 46 picks, Hutchinson, Wiliams and Paschal
This past yr they had 2#1s 2 #2s and 2 #3s Gibbs ,Campbel, LaPorta and Branch
They also had a pretty good amount of cap space
I'm betting if you give the Saints that kind of draft capital and cap space along with Johnson, we probably wouldn't need Glenn or Goff even DA would get us there

I remember word had gotten out when Ireland interviewed for GM in Chicago that he would’ve wanted to hire Campbell as his coach and not DA. Granted they were together in Miami but still says a lot about how he was viewed. I think he’s good for 1-2 more wins.

I think he’s good because of the talent he has and the o coordinator he brought in. There really isn’t anything special about his coaching strategy and sometimes he’s overly aggressive. Just MO though

DA's Saints would have beat the Eagles, and likely had a similar game to Tampa against Detroit. So, an actual head coach probably puts them into the NFCCG with a 35-40% chance of beating SF.

Johnson was there when Campbell got there and was not the OC. It was only mid-season that Lynn got fired and Johnson got promoted

Who knows. He's a rah rah guy and plays into the WWE theme of the NFL. That works for young players, but old vets who have already go their 2nd contract, not so much. The Coach O comps are dead on. And like many great leaders, they rely on the mid managers (coordinators) to really get the job done. I'm not sure he would have had as much success taking over this roster as he did building his own which he brought in his guys, drafted his guys and only plays his guys. People around here want to flog DA for trying to build a roster of his guys yet they bow down to Campbell who built a roster of his guys.

He's more buttoned up than Coach O

What many people don't understand about being a head coach is that your managerial and 'people' skills are just as important as football knowledge. Campbell is a leader of men and Dennis Allen isn't, it's pretty much as plain as that.

I heard it said best by Colin Cowherd, "Some men can be college professors, but that doesn't mean they can be dean of the department."

Lions success is some what on Campbell, but its also on the amount of talent they got out of the Rams deal when they traded Stafford. Lets be honest, Lions would never win under Stafford, it worked out in L.A. because of the defense they had. Goff was probably and still is the better QB of the 2. I still think L.A. is crazy for trading Goff.
