I’m inclined to think the Saints would ideally like to leave this draft w/ Bowers (3 Viewers)

Bowers is my best case scenario prospect as well, but I just can’t see him lasting to 14, nor can I envision us neglecting the OT position.

If we re-sign Peat, I’d feel a lot better and maybe even would consider a VERY SLIGHT trade up to nab Bowers if he “slips” to the 11-12 area.

At least Bowers would be interesting. He may not be worth the high pick due to size, but yet another first-round O-line bust would be just as bad and also boring.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Saints even traded up to get Bowers.

Wouldn't like the idea of trading up.

Wouldn't be surprised, however.

No way. We aren’t trading up for a 5th. That means we would have to give up our 2nd to do it. Or next years 1st. There’s no way this team has that luxury anymore.

I can’t get past 2 recent can’t miss TE’s named OJ Howard and Kyle Pitts. Both were gonna be all world and HOF players.

I’m obviously in the minority here, but you don’t generally draft TE’s inside the Top 15 picks of a draft.

We need to retool the Oline and this is a great year to do that. Oline is deep. I don’t look back at our bad luck with Penning. You have to fix the future now.

Pitts was a great athlete at the TE position, not a great TE. Howard, I don't remember him being a can't miss TE other than he was just a TE always running open at Bama, but we've seen that guys who are always open at Bama doesn't necessarily translate to the NFL.

Bowers is regarded as the best TE prospect, ever. He's on a different level than the guys you mentioned.

And regarding the comments that Olinemen are boring …

Armstead, Evans, Nicks, Ram, Brown, Strief, De Le Puente, Grubbs, Bushrod, Goodwin, Stinchcomb and a couple of others.

These are the kind of players that allowed Drew Brees to maximize his potential.

You win football games in the trenches.

Never stopped them before...

Wasn't talking about Evans and Nicks. O-line busts are both bad and boring.

The approach to trading up is probably dictated by who you either think will draft the player you want, who is also ahead of you in the draft order, or who you think will be selling their picks to another bidder.

Hard to be 100% sure on either front, but probably relatively easy to know who will have enough needs or higher rated alternative(s) to select someone else instead.

The wheeler dealers picking before #14 and already looking to trade down are likely known to the teams, but not so much to Joe Public.

The riskier propositions are those teams who want a particular player or players, don't get them on the day of the draft and suddenly turn into sellers. That's the wild card. For example, if Minnesota can't trade up higher and don't get their guy at #11 (or Denver at #12), or if the Bears don't like the options at #9, do they look to trade down and add assets?
