I want no part of Aaron Glenn as a HC (2 Viewers)

So why was Dan Campbell hired by the Lions?
People need to get over this obsession with Dan Campbell. That type of HC is the exception in the league, and even then, he’s yet to have any playoff success. Most great HCs were still great coordinators who were able to develop leadership skills as well.

The fact that Campbell has won regular season games with a historically good OC (who is now gone) does not mean it’s not preferable to still pursue a HC with real Xs and Os skills on his resume.

It’s like arguing between taking a QB in the first or fourth round. Can you get a franchise QB in the fourth round? Yeah, but it’s the less likely path.

Sirianni also doesn't call plays. Idk why DC isn't getting a pass for not having playoff success but you're still saying Ben Johnson is a historically good OC. Ben Johnson hasn't had any playoff success either by your definition.

This Detroit man to man defense is the Dennis Allen defense. Lions DC was Allen’s DB coach with Saints. You have to have great man to man DBs. Not many teams do. And Saints are seriously considering this DC. I want no part of him.
got your wish

It's no obsession; it's a fact. The team got to the conference championship last year and had the best record in the NFC this year (which most people on this board would be thrilled with MM wishes). Plus, his two top coordinators just got head coaching jobs, so he must bring something right. Steve Jobs was not the best engineer at Apple; he was a visionary.

Sirianni was an offensive coordinator when he got the Eagles job, whether he still calls plays or not.

I'm not saying a HC has to call plays, though in today's game it is an advantage to have one side of the ball protected from having its coordinator poached. I'm saying it's extremely rare to find someone like Campbell who is capable of going from a position coach to a head coach. So when the answer to every mention of a candidate's on-field performance is "but what about Dan Campbell," with the suggestion being that it doesn't matter, it ignores that the most likely path to finding a great HC is still hiring a top-performing coordinator.

We also have no idea how Campbell will respond to Johnson being hired away. I think they'll be fine, but a lot of opinions are resting on the last two seasons of having a historically-good offense.

Aaron Glenn will be fired before year 3 in New York. The Jets are trash, and he’s not the guy.

With that said… the Saints are doomed for at least as many years

Fact, the Lions have had 20 top 100 draft picks from 2019 -2023 including a #2, #3and a #7 pick. Holmes got there in 21 and he has drafted very well.
Campbell did not hire Johnson he was there when he got there. Campbell's 1st yr he went 3-13-1. in his 2nd yr he started out 1-6 , Goff was abysmal. the OC got fired and Johnson took over and instantly Goff got better and they won 8 of the last 10.

Campbell did not all of a sudden become a great coach, now he's a very good motivator but X's and O's are not his strength. Holmes gave him a lot of talent that he got from all those high draft picks they got from sucking and from the Stafford trade.

Johnson and Glenn and Holmes are the biggest reason for the Lions success , not so much Campbell. Unless they can hire or promote a great OC and DC the Lions will come down a big notch

I never claimed Campbell was an X & O guy; my point is that some HCs are more leaders and motivators than Xs&Os. The one benefit of taking over a team that has been losing for a long time is that they have been accumulating talent. That's why the Jets have multiple all-pros on defense. Obviously, having a top-notch GM is critical for any organizational success.

If yrs of loosing is the way to get talent what haven't the Browns and the Bears and the Panthers loaded with talent.
My point is that Campbell is no different than Ogeron was @ LSU , dependant on his OC and DC and a boatload of talent
