Ian Rapoport: Saints to make a decision on Taysom Hill; hard to imagine Hill returning [T.Hill is turning 35 w/ 18M cap hit & ACL recovery] (6 Viewers)

I think we are going to see a lot of these types of threads going forward. The roster is full of older players and over extended deals that I hope Moore will scrutinize and begin cleaning up. It’s not that I don’t appreciate some of these players and their contributions, it’s just that I think some of these circumstances won’t be conducive to a healthy rebuild. The past is gone, it’s time to look forward, finally!
We have a hard time moving on from certain players and I don't know if that's an HC or FO issue.

Do yall see Taysom Hill back with us this upcoming season? What are yall thoughts on this one? I know he's coming off a nasty injury and in my opinion a dirty hit that caused that torn ACL, and will be 35 in August! Love to hear what yall think?

I think Kubiak maximized Taysom to an extent that no one will again, it also highlighted that at 35 his body isn’t going to hold up to the amount of snaps or usage that will justify his price tag.

Unfortunately it’s time to cut ties.

Regardless of how the Saints choose to operate, it's a FO issue. The FO should be able to step in and nudge the coach in the right long term direction.

As for Taysom, I don't think it was an issue we needed to address, until now. With the Saints continuously trying to retool, extend contracts and players, etc., they believed they were in contention. Taysom proved to be a legitimate part of our offensive plan. Now that we're obviously in a rebuild mode, and Taysom going in to his age 35 season, coming off of a serious injury, it's more than fair to say he isn't a cornerstone in any kind of rebuild. You want to establish a new offense, and forcing the Taysom effect in to it, is nothing more than a short term luxury, if he can play at his former level. It just doesn't seem to make much sense. Even if 2025 is a throw away year, I think it would be smart to have the offense start taking on it's new and post Taysom direction. Now, if we want to keep Taysom around to play a reduced roll, at a team friendly number, thats a different story. Give me a special teams Taysom and back up TE Taysom and that might work. He could be good to help Moore set the culture.

I would like to reset it all this year too. But, I'm not sure it's really possible. I think you either have to cut/trade Carr and then keep the older players. Or you can keep Carr and let go of the older players. You can't do both or you can't get cap compliant.

But, I think what they will do is likely what Payton did in Denver. Keep the old vet QB for another year and the rest of the old guys. Then you fully reset everything next year. Although I do think it's possible that Moore decides he wants to move on from Carr this year. But, because of how our cap is structured, I don't think this can be a full reset/tank year unless it just happens organically because the old players get hurt and we have no depth. My preference at this point is to move on from Carr and see what Rattler can do, but I think they end up taking the Denver route.
I agree. That outcome is what is most likely to occur. I too would rather see what Rattler can do and if he isn't the answer, then we can get another QB in year 2 of Moore's tenure. If we go with Carr, then year two could be Rattler or another QB which means we never give Spencer a chance. I surely don't want to go into year 3 to figure it out.

Pretty much how I feel, love TH, but depending on a 34/35 year old "runner" as a big part of your offensive game plan is just inviting failure.....

Love TH, just wish he were 5-10 years younger....
