The last 11+ days have been like a train wreck for all card carrying members of The Who Dat! Nation. Though we all have been through ups and downs in regard to the league testing our resolve to support our beloved franchise, the organization they are a part of is pushing many of us right to the edge. Some here have announced publicly that they have already made the leap and moved on.
While we all understand that this fan site does not represent the total number of Saints fans both locally and around the world, I believe that it is a pretty good cross section that gives us a really good idea of how the complete number of Saints fans are feeling at this time.
We are approaching a milestone of sorts this Sunday. The Fraud Bowl will be a very difficult time for many. Whether the majority truly boycott or not, the game will still be a painful reminder of who should really be the participants of this cherished contest and may solidify where we may personally choose to go from that point forward. Will more folks take that permanent 'leap' to free themselves of the emotional burden of the questionable (at least) activities of the league and its czar? Or will the end of the trophy ceremony on Sunday allow the majority to reset their minds and hearts to the season ahead?
Frankly that will be a critical time for me. I will have to be able to convince myself to a reasonable degree that the future games will be legitimate contests that are determined primarily by the performance of the teams on the field... and nothing else.
I simply could not understand why anyone would continue their support if they truly believe (or know) that the games have any manipulation to alter the results. This is what we will all have to resolve within ourselves if we will ever find the same appeal in NFL football games.
I just hope that come Monday morning, we will come out of this travesty with The Who Dat! Nation intact. It will be nearly impossible to enjoy a season of football if games are challenged each week with additional or lingering conspiracy theories and doubts about the genuineness of the games. If we feel it's real enough to follow and believe, we should be as devout as ever. If we feel there are still fixes in place, we need to go away and remember the good times we all used to enjoy as Saints fans. If any of us try to choose anything besides these two options, we are only fooling ourselves.
Geaux Saints!
