Many here expressed thoughts that it best that the Saints not make the playoffs and take a beatdown. On the other hand, it seems that the Saints were playing their best at the end of the year and could have caught the Eagles just like the Bucs did. On that we'll never know.

The bigger question is what the fallout would have been had the Saints, led by Carr and D.A. would have been had they hosted a home playoff game and faltered as did the Cowboys led by Dak and McCarthy.

Starting with the Saints. It would have been brutal here and throughout Saints Nation. D.A. most likely would have been fired as it would have been his defense that looked like Swiss cheese all game long. Stuck with Carr for the 2024 season the gloom and doom would have been present all year long unless he got the Saints to the Superbowl. PC would have been fired as well as the entire coaching staff. Cleaning house would have been the call from all Who Dats.

Now with the Cowboys. I don't put it on McCarthy. His record speaks for itself. It's slightly better than Paytons record overall. MM didn't step on the field and let the lights shine to bright by making errant throws, interceptions and pick sixes. That honor goes to Dak Prescott. Funny that in post game interviews the media questions centered around whether or not a change needed to be made at Head Coach, to which Dak took up for MM by saying if that's the case you need to point the finger towards me. That was the most accurate thing from Dak all day. Yes Indeed! The spotlight should have been on Dak more than anyone else in the Cowboys organization. Regular season Dak hasn't transitioned to playoff Dak. After 8 years Dak has proven that he fails to perform well enough in the playoffs for Dallas to advance to the big game. Let's look at his stats in the Green Bay loss.

On the surface if you were just looking at his full game stats you would think he played OK. He put up more passing yards than any other QB in the 1st round of playoff games. His stat line reads 41 of 60, 3 TDs, 2 Ints., 403 Yards, 89.9 QB Rating. Most of his success and positive stats came with the game out of reach with less than 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The Packers had a 48-16 lead and were playing all backups on defense at that point enjoying a 32 point lead while just trying to close out the game without any significant injuries. They were just running the ball with 2nd teamers trying to kill clock at that point. That's when Dak put up most of his garbage time numbers.

Back up to the first half. The Packers held a 27-0 lead. On the last drive of the first half the Cowboys benefited from a bs personal foul call on a horse collar that wasn't and then scored with 2 seconds left in the half on a play that their left guard should have been called for a false start which would have ended the half without Dallas scoring. Dak was credited with a TD pass that should not have counted. Even so, his first half stats were 13 of 21 for 87 Yards, 1 TD, 2 Ints. including a Pick 6, and a QB rating of less than 30, IIRC.

Like the Saints, the Boyz are stuck with Dak for at least one more year. Like the Saints, the Cowpokes have decided to keep their respective Head Coaches in place for at least one more year.

The differences at QB are not that dramatic. Dak puts up better overall numbers than Carr and wins more regular season games but neither have been effective in the post season.

The differences at Head Coach are night and day. McCarthy is a proven winner with a Superbowl win, multiple playoff wins and division championships while D.A. is a proven loser with nothing similar to show as positives.

Thankfully it wasn't the Saints on the other end of the beatdown. As much as I would always prefer the Saints to make the playoffs, the gloom and doom that would linger for 9 months would have been almost to much to take.

Any thoughts?

To me Dak and Derek are not elite but will help you stay in the game. They are quarterbacks that rely on others to do well also. Probably only a very few that can take a game over. But people put all blame on one person when it is obvious that other areas are more at fault here. Dallas defense played horrible the second half of the season. They are full of talented players on there. Can't put all on Hurts either when you see how horrible the tackling the Eagles defense displayed.
Fans are selective on their outrage. Honestly I would be happy if we did make the playoffs. But I do see your point about being blown out in it instead of missing the playoffs. But I am greedy. I will still take my chances. I want that ring. Giants fans were happy they took that chance. The Packers was a mediocre team in 2010 that won it all.

Disagree. Making the playoffs with DC4 would’ve went a long way with our fanbase. It also would’ve 150% ensured ML that 🦌 was staying aboard, possibly even PC. Yall shouldn’t diminish the magnitude of what getting to the playoffs is, even if we got manhandled rd 1. In our division, it is goal #1. We failed to reach our 1st goal. All we ended with was a moral victory for 🦌’s coaching record and slightly bought him more time.

IMO, it wouldn't reach the level of the Cowboy failure because the expectations were no way near the same! With the Saints, we've seen all year that the coaching staff wasn't up to the task and I believe the majority of us here knew the likelihood of them being outcoached in the playoffs was very high.

Cowboy fan meltdowns are epic. There can be no comparison.
I don't know about you, but did you at anytime think this would end differently in the end. But, they get style points for how they lost that game.

Have DA and Carr won 12 games for 3 consecutive years in this scenario?

I would feel differently if we hosted a game this year at 9-8 and got drilled vs a blowout in a year where we had legit SB aspirations.

Kind of like the Saints under Jim Mora. However, SR wasn’t around then to claim the sky was falling with every playoff loss.

I think if we made the playoffs after the season we had, most would not have been surprised and quite frankly expecting DA and Carr to choke. I mean, a wildcard playoff win was always this team's ceiling. So losing one shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

Now if we made the playoffs with Dallas' record and the year they had, then I could see more people being upset.

^ This. Our expectations were very low going in. The Cowboys were expected to coast through to the next round. Nobody saw that beat down coming.

Even with the Eagles reeling, we'd have gone into the game very guarded. The Cowboy fans weren't, at all. It was a thing of beauty.

I have to disagree, Cowboy fans expectation was already high they didn’t expect a team that barely made the playoffs to beat them like that.

The Saints on the other hand, if they would have made the playoffs fans wouldn’t be surprised if they lost bad by a formidable opponent that was consistently playing good all season.

OP, man that’s a lot of words. You don’t think the Cowboys nation blew up? The whole national media blew up.
