Ireland Deserves A Lot More Credit (1 Viewer)

If I was absolutely forced to play devil's advocate, I would say that his first draft with us, we used first round picks on Peat and Stephone Anthony. Those were baddish/ really bad picks.

Now I don't know how much input he even had on that draft, as I think he had been brought in earlier that offseason. And obviously the drafting has been arguably the best in the league since then.

Peat is a bad pick?????

He’s been a starter since day 1....and a fixture in one of the best offenses in the past 5 years.

That’s a bad pick??

Steven Anthony has been on 4 teams and is out of the league. That is a bad pick.

It seems to me. Once Jeff Ireland had been in place for a full season, that is when everything turned around for the Saints.
Ireland and Payton are the most important people in the Saints organization: player, coach, or executive.
The players, that some might put ahead of Ireland, were acquired by Ireland for a second round pick or peanuts.
Ireland has given us the second best defense in team history, after the Super Bowl defense that had Sharper making all those critical pick-6s. The Dome Patrol defenses were awesome, but they were all front 7; the secondary (and pedestrian offense) kept the team from even winning a playoff game.
Both lines are strong on the team. We have been known to have the best roster for a few years, since Ireland had 2-3 years to build it.
If you are saying the 09 defense was the best this defense isn’t second. The dome patrol would eat this lunch for breakfast.

I've been hoping for a few years now that they would create another position in the organization and move Loomis up(with compensation) so they could make Ireland GM, maybe keep him around a little longer, other people have noticed him...

From what i recall the DP secondary did not suck. The problem was prevent defense. Instead of of the D they played the other 54 minutes. When they rushed 5 on every play you never knew who was dropping back. Toi and Buck allways got picked on because they gambled alot but got timly int's Gene and Brett laid wood and could catch int's. Massey and Waymer were good and should of never left. I dont remember why. Jones,Morse and mack were nothing special. leggette and lumpkin bad drafts and FA were the downfall of the DP along with losing Brett. Buck taking his spot was a double loss. Pat getting traded. Ricky going to the enemy.
