I guess Sean Payton had seen enough at some point, but:

Whatever happened to Emmanuel Butler? This time last season, he was the star of 7-on-7s. I don't recall him doing a lot in the actual preseason games, though. Wasn't he hurt at some point? Didn't make the 2020 Week 1 roster, not sure if he was ever on the 2020 practice squad.

Emmanuel Butler just kind of ... vanished. Just a UDFA washout, it looks like?

CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Things move fast -- Butler is no longer a Tiger-Cat as of July 19th:

Hamilton also suspended American receiver Emmanuel Butler ...

In the article's context, this doesn't sound like "suspended" as in the NFL sense of "did something wrong". Maybe Hamilton retains his CFL rights, but released Butler to sign with another league. Not sure.

He was the last true camp beast. No one has quite made it to that tier yet the past two camps.

Had to dig into this ... from the CFL bylaws:

Suspension List, Suspended List: A player who violates his contract with the Club may, upon application to the Commissioner, be placed on the League Suspension List as defined in Section 9, Item C of the CFL By-laws. Players placed on the Suspension List do not count against the active roster or reserve list limits. Most commonly being placed on the suspended list is the result of a player not reporting to training camp or leaving the team/not attending practice during the season without team approval.

This seems to happen a lot in the CFL. A quick Googling reveals that every club puts about 10-15 players on their Suspended List every year. I guess these players are free to try out for the NFL, then come back to the CFL if they don't stick.

Butler was a camp beast LAST season, too. At least during 7-on-7s. Unless I'm remembering wrong.

I do recall him doing little in the 2020 preseason games. I think he was even held out of one of them.

I'm not sure we have room for another 4.75 40 WR. With DB those slow receivers were okay, but with LJH already holding down the 4.75 40 WR position, we may need other options.

Training Camp beast. We've had a few of those over the years that didn't translate over to the regular season.

He was gettng seperation in our route concepts. Hes z receiver in what we do. You go in thinking Thomas getting all those snaps. He cab really only do the z concepts. So didnt offer position flexibilty. U dont want him running flanker routes or really alot of slot stuff. Also no real ST contribution either. We got a hole there now. He came to mind to me too
