Is Joe Burrow the last one? (2 Viewers)

I don't think it will ever go away, kinda like cars, some are electric, and some are gas powered but we'll always need a car.

While running QB’s are fun to watch and make great high light reels, who was the last one to win a Super Bowl? Cam Newton is the only one who made the Super Bowl but lost.

Kyle Shanahan, Andy Reid, Nick Sirianni, and the College game has ended traditional Offenses. Levis falling and the trend analysis is showing the drop back QB is a dinosaur. Joe Burrow, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Cousins, Justin Herbert, Daniel Jones, and Josh Allen. The last three run RPO concepts. The NFL is showing that cerebral drop back QB is no longer the norm. Power running/ zone blocking schemes with weapons are not going away. They asked Kirby Smart, why should a team draft Stetson Bennett. He referred to the fact that he learned under Todd Monken system. The sideline stressed spread system that just got Lamar Jackson paid. I thought that was interesting that he was referring to the fact that his program of spacing stress, and spread was considered a bonus. It is no longer traditional west coast concepts with longer play calls, and protection calls. I am afraid sometimes that we have wasted a lot of talent keeping Carmichael, and not deploying the new NFL. The 49ers with mccaffrey, Aiyuk, kittle, and Deebow. Have plugged and played Trey Lance, Jimmy G, and now Brock Purdy. Just keep pumping. Hurts in Philly running the Sirianni spread concept is gorgeous.

All I know is that I’m glad we didn’t have to sign a Lamar Jackson kind of QB to such a huge contract. Good QB, absolutely, however I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses some significant time during the next few seasons.

Ah. He's not the right kind of running qb
Mahomes: 1547 rush yards on 299 attempts in 6 years (5 as starter)

Jackson: 4437 rush yards on 727 attempts in 5 years

Newton: 3207 rush yards on 599 attempts in first 5 years

One of these is not like the other…

However Mahomes’ rushing numbers look similar to someone…

Luck: 1590 rush yards on 332 attempts in 6 years

Is Andrew Luck a pocket passer or a running QB?

I'd say he's a dual threat qb

There’s a big difference in a Running QB and a QB who can run. Mahomes is a pocket passer that can use his legs when he needs to. He’s not a running QB like Lamar, Vick, etc who struggles reading defenses and relies on his legs to gain yards.

“Dual threat” implies there’s a possibility he’ll run as often as he throws.

Luck threw on 90.8% of his dropbacks (3290 pass attempts to 332 rushes) and ran on 9.2% of them.

Like Luck, Mahomes literally throws the ball 90% of his dropbacks (2993 pass attempts to 299 rushes) and runs on 10% of them.

9 passes to 1 rush attempt does not make them “dual threat”. They’re mobile pocket passers.

Meanwhile Jackson throws on ~69.5% of his drop backs (1655 pass attempts to 727 rushes) and runs on 30.5% on them.

That is a dual threat QB.

There's a grey area as it relates to scrambling. Mahomes does it a lot, and Russ in his prime would catch defenses sleeping frequently.
