It feels like forever since the Saints have been relevant (1 Viewer)

Its the cycle of the NFL, some teams like the Patriots buck the trend and will dominate in extraordinary fashion, but more often than not, you will be good for what, 5 maybe 10 years maximum (once you find your franchise QB to pair up with a great HC) then you will spend probably spend just as long trying to find such a thing once again, we got to experience that, and you could very well argue we were elite for almost a decade and a half, its time to pull the ripcord and start a new. The problem with our team is that this front office refuses to do so and is trying laughably latch onto whatever remnant of what this team used to be, instead of starting over from scratch.

tl;dr im with you, i havent been this unexcited about an upcoming season in almost 20 years, and thats saying something.
They cannot simply start over. And its not because they are freakishly attached to a remnant of the Brees era. Its because all of the players, for the most part, are more expensive to cut than to keep. Because of this, the went and got Carr. You might as well try with what you have right?

So, Haener or Rattler? Who you got as the next great Saints QB?

I think that Haener might well be the the better QB right now, but Rattler will get first shot after Carr due to arm talent. Then again, I really have no clue!

What if one of them gets his chance this coming season?? Wouldn't that take away some of the "meh"! It would definitely be interesting. :hihi:

Sorry! Just trying to take your mind off the gloomy side of things. :)
I think Rattler ends up being the guy in 2-3 years, very talented. I remember thinking at the end of the season, what was one of the things we'd have to do to invigorate the fan base and after OC it was drafting a QB. There's no bigger excitement than the what if's tied to a young QB. We were lucky to get Rattler in the 5th he's the only other guy outside of the top 4-5 that went, who would come w/ that level of excitement, despite the round he went in.

I think it’s because there is a bit of a crossover with LSU, but you’re gonna have runs like this in the NFL.
You can’t pad the schedule with cupcake games like college football.

im actually very interested in seeing what we put together with all these unknowns and new players. We cant replace Brees era but we have to move on. Im concerned about oline though. Fuaga better be a total stud

Poor coaching and Bad Contracts with Aging and injured players will do that. The only consistent identity the team has had the past few seasons is a Bad Team.
No matter how they try to revamp or rebuild it'll doesn't work out end up losing good talent.

The original didn’t need fixing. I think many coaches could’ve done as well with Brees at the helm, and quite a few would’ve likely done better.
I'm not saying Brees couldn't, although CSP is the one that unlocked the potential. When Drew retired and we were left with what we had due to people moving on and losing players due to cap hit, hindsight tells us that we are a 10+ win team if neither Jameis or Taysom gets hurt and easily make the playoffs. The next year with a better overall team, we only win 7 games. This season with a better overall team and weaker schedule, we win the same about that we did Payton's last year here. Tell-tale sign of a coaching issue.
