fingers crossed, but the sunshield was the most complex part of the deployment operation. I'm optimistic of their success at this point.

Secondary Mirror is now deployed and locked into place. Another major milestone!

After the deploy the two main mirror sides the real tricky part starts. They will be test and adjusting each of the 18 segments of the mirror. Each segment has 6 actuators to move it around to focus the mirror and a 7th in the middle to adjust the shape. That is scheduled to take 11 days to complete.

After thinking about why they made this mirror so complicated I decided that it is likely because of what happened with the Hubble. They didn't count on it's mirror warping and had to use a shuttle mission to install a device that essentially gave it a pair of glasses. That would not be possible with the Webb so they had to come up with a way to focus the mirror remotely.

All that’s left is to adjust the segments over the next 11 days and the a final firing of it engine to put it into orbit of the L2 point. We are still months away from getting the pictures from it though.

I laughed at this the very second I saw it.
So why hasn’t Starfleet collected Pioneer 10 and put it in a museum? Why is a Bird of Prey in Federation space? P10 wouldn’t even be a 1/4 of a light year from Earth at that point.

I’m still waiting for Voyager 6’s launch.
