I don't know if this is worth discussing. It was something I noticed after the Saints/49ers playoff game. Jennifer Hale lost some credibility with me. She had a hard enough time convincing me that she was "sports smart" coming from the news desk. I understand that she is kinda cute, so she may get a semi-pass for her shortcomings sports wise.

She was standing outside the stadium interviewing Saints fans about the game. Scott Fujita walked right by, looked right at her and the camera, and said, "good game". She looked right at him and continued to talk to the fans that were in front of her microphone.
She could have reached out and touched Fujita. I thought that he would have been an ideal candidate to grab and talk about the game, especially since he is a pro and a former Saint. I couldn't believe she just let him walk away.......

I think that she did not know who he was. There was no reaction from her when he walked by.

I thought this was a missed opportunity???? I wanted to talk to Fred Hickman about it, but he is obviously too busy trying to figure out that it is not good to refer to hamstring injuries as a "hammie". Hammie........really?

I think it's more about Jennifer's assets...

i saw Jennifer Hale twice while in town for the BCS game; once in front of St. Louis Cathedral on Sunday, then walking down Royal St. on Monday.. both times she just seemed to be in 'hang out' mode, not working, dressed casually and with a guy that appeared to be her boyfriend or husband.

I don't. Totally casting couch material here. She starts doing the 5am news with Rob Masson. Fine, no problems. This continues for a few months and BANG! she's doing sports?! (BTW, the BANG was intentional).

Totally out of her element. Needs to stick to reading teleprompters and interviewing personnel about the latest births at the Audubon Zoo. Her "happy talk" is weak and she fails miserably at trying to understand the "nuts and bolts" of football.

Does a very poor impression of Erin Andrews and Pam Oliver.

My two cents...

I won't argue that she's essentially worthless at sports

But do you guys really think that every sportscaster in America knows Scott Fujita on sight?

you realize that she's based in New Orleans, right? She's primarily a sports reporter for WVUE, Channel 8, in NOLA-- but has recently started doing sideline reporting for other nationally televised games.. Anyway, i'm not coming down on her as hard as some others here are (hehe)-- but i think that as someone who works in New Orleans sports (and was i believe raised in NOLA and is a Saints fan) it is a little odd that she didn't recognize Fujita.

This is what I was thinking. Fujita has not been gone that long. I just thought that she missed a great opportunity to get some input from somebody that plays the game. It told me a lot about the sports reporter that she intends on being. I wonder if she even likes sports that much. I think she is prepping in the hopes of getting a network job. It appears that she does not think too quickly "on her feet". :)

Well, if she was doing "man on the street" type interviews, why would she want to talk to a professional? Totally defeats the purpose.

Eh....if you're doing man on the street and someone notable walks by, you talk to them for sure. The only purpose is to generate interest and thus viewers.

Look, the reality is that a great many of these women aren't all that knowledgeable about the sports they cover. Some do (Pam Oliver is a very good reporter. Erin Andrews has improved drastically over the years.), some can at least fake their way through it, and some have no clue. The worst ever was probably Lisa Gurrero who clearly had ZERO idea about what she was talking about and eventually left sports reporting altogether to work for one of those hack shows like Inside Edition.
