As a former Jeopardy! contestant and (still) devoted daily watcher, I can tell you there has been some variance on answers. Sometimes they allow only a last name ( to me, more often than they should) while sometimes they ask contestants to be more specific.
They allow a LOT of leeway on pronunciation of place names, person's names and certain phrases, especially if they are of foreign nature. (for instance, in a clue about the author of "The Plague", someone might say "Who was Albert Cam-MUSS" instead of "Who was AL-bear Cay-MOO" and it would be allowed.
What I think happened was that this was a "before and after" clue which required combining two "official" TITLES into one thing: "/Gangsta's / Paradise \ Lost".
Same thing if there was a clue about a certain 1988 blaxploitation parody film. If you answered, "What is, 'I am going to get you, sucker!'", you'd be wrong.
