N/S Jets sign QB Justin Fields to a 2year/$40 million deal (21 Viewers)

How in the world? Sure, that’s not crazy amount of money for a QB, but shouldn’t just get paid because it says QB on your jersey!

I actually think Fields could be successful in the right offense. In fact, I wanted the Saints to take a shot with him after what Moore did with Hurts. I don't know who the OC is with the Jets or what offense they will run, but it will be interesting to see how he does. I could end up being disastrously wrong about him, but I think he's worth the short term gamble.

These are now "normal" QB prices... That's why many of us keep pounding the table for us to take QBs in the draft fairly highly every year until we find the right one...

In some cases - even if it means we pass on other perceived "team needs"... In the modern NFL there isn't a much better situation than having the right QB on a rookie deal....

That alone will literally resurrect and transform a franchise faster than just about anything (and make you a sustainable contender).

Fields will be the Jets starting QB. Former 11th overall pick and still 26 years old. $20 million a year is only the 20th most in the league for QBs. Cheap starting QB salary in this climate.

Compared to 30-60m per year, 20m is an ideal salary to pay the starting QB without having to commit long term expensive cap to him.

Were you also willing to pay him $40m over two years, with Carr's cap still on the books, to find out?

It's actually peanuts in QB money. Remember, Dak is getting 60 and we're about to give Carr almost 70 more.
