Jim Mora didn’t like Rizzi chewing out Matthew Hayball (5 Viewers)

Honestly, I wasn't too thrill about that either. There is a fine line with those type of behavior with coaches. In my many years of watching football I have seen a few coaches doing that and it didn't end well with their team. Ditka did it with Harbaugh. Parchell was hard nose but never to that extreme. Mora was brutally honest but never seen him go off on the sideline like that. The only person famous with that kind of outburst was Bobby Knight. Salute to Hayball for taking it. People might praise Rizzi for his more accountability approach but there is a thin line with that. These are men and not college or high school kids on the sideline.

Payton has yelled at players like Rizzi did, so has Belichick. So it seems that that coaches yelling at players is not a good indication of whether a coach will be successful or not.

Yes I have seen it many time. And I am ok with it. But what Rizzi did is a little too much. Like I said there is a thin line with that.

There is yelling and chewing out but what Rizzi did was red-face hysteria throwing things. And at the PUNTER. Hayball didn't fumble, He didn't drop a sure TD pass to win a game or miss a tackle that cost us a game. He didn't kick it where it needed to be . C'mon man

I guess with the snowflake era we are in now, Rizzi should have pulled him over, wrapped a arm over his shoulder, and said now Matthew, these punts aren't going where we designed. And you got caught up in the midst of all the players so you couldn't make a play on the returner. So what I need you to do next time is execute OK. Now, go get some gatorade and watch the film and try to do better. You're ok Matthew. You will be fine.
He got his butt chewed out. He will live.

Payton and Belichick have both shown the same level of anger, so have many other successful and unsuccessful coaches. That's an objective fact. Whether or not it's acceptable is completely a subjective opinion that doesn't matter to me one way or another.

I do find it odd that some of the same people who cheer vicious hits, turn around to boo a coach for verbally yelling at someone. Seems like a pretty whacked value system to me, but that's just my subjective opinion.

It was over the top. Picked one of maybe 2 guys he could beat up on the team to do that too. I thought it was weak. Wasn’t a lack of effort. To me that’s the kind of thing that should generate that kind of outburst.

I don't like it. Players will tolerate it when they're winning, but when a team is losing, such outbursts wear thin very early in the season.

Having said that, I think Hayball had been coached personally, repeatedly, and specifically on that mistake by Rizzi, and he knew he screwed up right away. He knew he had it coming, and dealt with the tantrum very well.

He looked like a very inexperienced HC that was feeling a lot of pressure bc we were performing badly against a JV team. Then on top of that the one group he thought he could count on was Sp teams and they just about let him down. He lost control for a moment. It was a bad look, and completely over the top, but you could obviously see he was feeling the pressure of that game.

Playing the worst team in the league.

Struggling against the worst team in the league.

All his friends and family at the game.

He wanted to win that game more than any game he’ll likely ever be a HC in, he just lost control for a second.

Not the end of the world, but still can’t happen. Not in that situation. It was borderline ridiculous.
