Keith Rivers Highlight Video... (1 Viewer)

Some people just don't want DRC I'm not sure why.

I dont have a problem with people not wanting a player. I just have a problem when people speak poorly about a prospect simply because of ignorance about him rather than facts.

Some people just don't want DRC I'm not sure why.

Your young, you will see in 10 years when alotta these guys do not pan out. We just want a more proven commidity. Especially picking at 10, I know you like DRC but he is gonna be a project. Alotta these 4 year starters at top level competetion are still projects and he just has that much more to learn. Could he be great one day, absolutly, the kid looks like a stud, but I have seen lotsa guys like that come and go, I have seen many guys from small schools drafted and bust. I mean the people always bring up Jerry Rice and Walter Payton, and Steve Mcnair, but do you see how few and far between those guys are, i'm sure there are many many many more, but still we are talking over 20 years ago and you will probably get a list of 15 guys that really inpacted the game, another 100 that were good but not great players, and the other 50,000 plus small school prospects, go get a career outside of football. Almost 300 players are drafted every year, you take 20 years and almost 300 prospects a year not including UDFA and you are talking thousands upon thousands of players. But you can find a list of 15 that really impacted the game, we call that an exception, not the rule.

I think he has alotta tools and unbelievable athletic ability. But that dosen't always translate. All these talking heads want to break that feel good story and want to be the first to say I told you so (and that whats its really all about to them IMO) They don't just turn on the tape and watch the entire game. They hear word of mouth, and get inside information (which half the teams are lying to them) And then the go and try and pick it right, and get the right order, not the best players. These people change thier lists multiple times from january to late april. They go where the buzz is.

I think thats what DRC is, alotta buzz, but we have little to nothing to go by. You just can not go by kiper and mayock because these people are always wrong. i mean they really are, always earlier than sooner, I don't think I have even seen Mel Kiper get a top 10 right let alone an entire draft. Mike Mayock I had never even heard of until a Think 2 years ago (the Reggie draft).

Its not that we don't like DRC, its that we get tired of hearing about him and its the same content over and over, especially with these small school guys with little to no history. I think pretty much everything that is gonna be said about DRC has been said, but none the less there will be 2 more front page threads tomorrow. People aren't dogging him, people just wanna know why people feel this way, and we never get any new info from ya'll? What new has happened, why did we need 3 new threads today, what else has he done? I don't even wanna think about his pro day, I honestly hope he sticks with the combine stuff and just does interviews etc. Because I don't think I can handle the 80 threads to recap it the following week. if one thread was continued and stuff was kinda kept in there, you would see alot less resentment (i mean do a search on DRC than scroll way way way way way down to an eariler thread around SR. Bowl and people we all excited about this guy) But after months of the same threads people if the don;t read something new, the start to resent it. They get tired of the same context over and over and over. The start to question it, and get really no reasonable response, just like a kiper mock draft, or a draft profile, and are just like Gee thanks, I could have found that myself, 2 threads below.

Agian, its not like we don't like him, just most of us have seen many come and go just like him. The threads all reapeat content, and then you get people that start to question why and I reading this again? who is this guy? what do we really know about him?

Keep in mind this was supposed to be a Keith Rivers thread. But someone said Like DRC (in rsponse to a comment, of athletic ability), and we get the DRC brigade in here to thread jack and show us some more DRC. While the front page has all this content already.

I think this may be the first time I have seen a post of yours that I do not agree with.

It isn't even remotely true that DRC did not dominate his level. I dont quite understand where this line of thinking has come from. The guy only got thrown at 161 times in about 40 games which is an accomplishment in itself. Only 55 of those passes were completed. 1 out of every 14 of those passes was intercepted. He gave up an average of about 1.4 passes per game. And on top of all this, his yards per pass average is 3.5 which is tops for ANY starting defensive back at every college level over the last three seasons.

How much more dominant can a corner be?

I didn't say he didn't produce or dominate....I just said judging by his numbers he seemed to not produce up to his skill level or hype level. No biggie though....I'm a little biased because I don't want a corner in round 1. Hopefully whoever we get becomes a stud for us right away.

Is this due to his lack of INTs? Sometimes the best corners are the ones that dont catch many INTs because it means they arent getting tested. Champ Bailey only had 3 last season.

Hmmmmm, thank you, I'll will take one, preferrable at #10.

Give me Rivers before DCR

Wow.....this is basically the after-effects of dealing with the quality that Jason David produced for us. We have gone literally insane over DRC. Granted the guy DOES look good and I would not mind him at 10 either but man....talk about panic!! (At least that is what this feels like.) I think some of this is also due to the fact that since we just signed 2 veteran studs at the LB position that all the LB talk has dwindled down a bit. Its almost like there is not much room for Rivers talk but we are all scared poopless that we will have to deal with David again so......HIT THE PANIC BUTTON and bring up 3,000 DRC threads.

Man, I think you just hit the nail on the head.

Don't get me wrong, above all else I am a Saints fan, have been for almost 25 years. If we select DRC and he turns into a Champ Bailey-type corner, then you won't find anyone happier that we took him. But, and it's a major but, I have this gut feeling that he won't pan out. Call it being cautious for past failures or whatever you want but historically, linebackers are the first defenders to get on the field and produce. That is basically my main disagreement with us taking a corner, no matter which one, in the first. This organization has shown a hesitance on playing young cornerbacks, evidenced by last year when David was struggling so bad and he never came out, even though Usama was waiting in the wings. The window for success in the NFL is so small, especially for a franchise that has a hard time attracting top-tier free agents, to win that we can't afford to use a Top-10 selection on someone who won't see the field in his first season. Now if we take a CB in the second, someone like Cason, I am all for it. But let's get a bonafide FIRST YEAR starter in round one. And to all you DRC fans, we all would rather the Saints win than have them draft 'our favorite draft prospect' right? So just ease up on the people that don't see him as the savior of our defense, okay?
