Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach (27 Viewers)

Yeah man. How dare he answer a question asked about the Saints (a place he spent 16 years), asked by someone known to discuss the Saints, while on set with two of his Saints players. The absolute gall of him.

Some of y’all are way too deep in your feelings about this guy.
They act like jilted lovers.

Alright child. Calm down, I just said I appreciate what he did for this franchise but my IQ is also high enough to acknowledge that in trying to chase that final championship he put this team in a bad situation that we're still trying to get out of. Like do you really not see the cost benefit to get those 5 winning seasons?

He could have drafted a QB that would have set the franchise up for the next decade but because it wouldn't help him win that year he went and traded up for a project DE. In the final 5 years of Brees career his attempts to find a young QB were Ian Book and Tommy Stevens.
LOL, sure junior, I'll keep the level of discourse to your liking, but tell me, is your IQ high enough to also realize that there is a front office and general manager in place that could have drafted one of those franchise quarterbacks? And that they still haven't in the three years since he left? Is that still Payton's fault? And why was it even Payton's obligation to use a first round pick on a quarterback when he had his guy here?

And I'll answer that question for you---it wasn't. Like you said, he was chasing a final championship & wanted to use his high picks on other things. And the front office went right along with him. And then after 16 years of 100 hour work weeks & unprecedented franchise success, he decided he needed a break. That's it. No need to get huffy. The guy gave his all, and it was up to the Saints front office and new coach to move forward after that. Have they succeeded to date? No---but that isn't on Payton

Man, the hate that the coach that won us a super bowl gets is ridiculous as the hate our current QB1 gets.

It makes me  to see that our fan base is so filled with a bunch of panties-in-a-knot haters and complainers.
The reason they hate Qb1 has nothing to do with football. I’ve found this out recently. It’s his positive demeanor that people think is fake and disingenuous. Then they try to reinforce the idiotic premise with weak defenses, such as the Olave issue. And other stupid reasons. If Rattler had the numbers that Carr has this year, QBR, Rattler would have a statue, and would be some folk hero. I forget who it was, but it was from a legit football person, said this week that Carrs talent is up there with best in the NFL. The people who clown this post, are the people I’m talking about lol

The man has been gone for going on four years and the Saints are in the same cap situation that they were in when he was still here.

Don’t you think that the cap situation would’ve improved after three offseason’s if he was the one at fault?

The Saints haven’t changed their salary cap strategy at all since he’s been gone, so perhaps that’s the reason Payton is no longer here. It’s possible that he didn’t want to be a part of these shenanigans that were only acceptable while Brees was still the QB. That’s right, Loomis and Co. kept this foolishness going by bringing in Derek Carr and sticking to win now mode with him at the helm.
He was looking out for himself. And he earned that right by winning a SB. Remember his first attempt was to leave to Miami with Tom Brady.

I believe Payton was trying to leave after Tom Benson passed away and I think if Tom Benson was still around, then Payton would still be around.

It is what it is… The man can choose to work wherever he wants to work. I was disappointed like everyone else when he quit on the Saints, but I’m not gonna hold a grudge and blame him for where the organization is today.

Here is a crazy conspiracy theory...ready?

The game that Payton got "Covid" and was "force" to sit out, he told the entire coaching staff to prepare as if he was no longer with the team. He then called his buddy Tom the goat Brady and asked him to tank so that old DA would get da job. And DA got da job. I have no sources or proof, this is totally made up but very believeable. what say you.
You forgot about the pivotal role that CJGJ played...

Keeping the “potential” DC talk going, here is an article by John Sigler at SaintsWire via an Eric Fowler ESPN article (pay wall) about potential DC candidates being rumored.

Would like to see an old school coaching veteran next to Moore, to counter his youth.

Mike Zimmer, Ron Rivera types. Maybe not necessarily those particular guys, but just those types. I’d like to have that type of contrast.

It's hard to agree with picking someone coaching under Fangio if it's Fangio himself that made the Philly defense good. I think Staley might be the best choice in that he was a good DC before and only got fired for not being a great HC. You have to wonder if there are any other former DCs sitting on teams as line or linebackers coaches that aren't being talked about yet.

Yeah….I tend to agree with you on that. I am intrigued by Christian Parker though. Staley would be a good hire too. Both are young which I like since it appears we’re going with a youth movement. However…like you’re saying, a top notch, older veteran but GOOD DC hire to counter his youth would be great as well.

I see all these other teams like the Rams, Vikings and Dolphins with all these young coaches and coordinators doing well and always seem to be thinking…why not us.

Doesn’t really meet my personal wish of a former HC type, but this could be an intriguing name to watch.

Jeremiah Washburn, who has more than two decades of experience as an NFL coach and scout, enters his sixth season with the Philadelphia Eagles and third as the team's defensive ends/outside linebackers coach.
In 2023, Washburn helped linebacker Haason Reddick collect his second consecutive Pro Bowl honor after recording a career-high 70 pressures with 23 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, and 11.0 sacks (first Eagle with 11.0-plus sacks in back-to-back seasons in 30 years). Washburn also aided defensive end Josh Sweat to a career-best 75 pressures, which ranked sixth among NFL defensive ends, and a career-high-tying 23 quarterback hits.
During the Eagles' 14-3 campaign that resulted in a Super Bowl LVII appearance in 2022, Washburn oversaw a group of edge rushers that helped engineer the third-most sacks (70, tied) in NFL history, trailing only the 1984 Bears (72) and 1989 Vikings (71). Philadelphia also became the first team to have four different players post double-digit sacks in the same year.

I hope we absolutely raid the Eagles coaching staff, strength and conditioning team, player personnel/scouting staff, analytics team…I want it all. I want their program duplicated as much as possible. They are doing something right in Philly…just a consistent year-in, year-out winner.

Yeah, Rivera would be excellent to me. I have always liked him. Not sold on Zimmer anymore after how Dallas looked this past season.
