Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach [Feb 10 — Fletcher Mackel: mostly done deal; intro press conference to be later this week] (867 Viewers)

apparently im a day behind lolol.

already been reported so mostly what yall already know.

no earth-shattering, mind-changing info.

Just a pop up on phone that had a "release" time of 3 hrs ago when in fact, it was more likely yesterday

Gotcha. Didn’t know if something new had been reported.

Just read that Siriani is pushing hard to keep him in Philly.
All of this posturing is to ensure the Saints give him the bag. If he doesn't take it, then he has to wait through a year where injuries could derail their
"run it back" season and present him with other franchises in terrible situations to take over -- if he even ends up on the short list next season. 75% of success at the highest level in this league is good fortune on injuries and turnovers. How many Super Bowls were we a few bounces or critical injuries from being in? --- The part he can control? Getting paid more in a career path fraught with risk and short tenures. The opportunity is now.

To this point, NFL policy and timing have been the issue. Hard to say there’s posturing going on.

All indications are this is essentially a done deal that couldn’t be finalized until the conclusion of the Super Bowl. It’s almost a certainty that a lot more people are already involved in this move than just Moore, his family, and the Saints front office. Eagles front office has probably already started exploring contingencies and the Saints probably have started laying the groundwork behind the scenes to assemble Moore’s staff. (As I understand it within league rules.)

CSP and DB9 are both on record that the Saints did that also....especially in the first 15-20 "scripted" plays. If they had game-planned well, they were either going to get chunk yards, a score, or valuable information to setup and fake with later on. Plus, it's like an earlier poster pointed out....you have to serve notice to the defense to keep defending EVERYTHING. If you abandon a part of your arsenal, even if unsuccessful, you allow the D to abandon the defense of that concept; making their job easier. It's often a war of attrition, and you've got to make them expend ALL their resources before you can have their way with them. Kinda like a cat swatting a mouse around for amusement before it gets bored and kills it.

Yep, it's going to be different going to back a guy who can call a game via feel as it plays out like SP.

So, do we have an announced date/time for a press conference? Has Moore signed a contract yet?

Honestly, after last night, I’m pretty excited to see him come to NOLA. But I’m going to be nervous about it until he’s behind the Saints podium.
I would expect them to let Moore have one day with the Superbowl team. Then announce tomorrow but we’ll see.

Looking at those run plays in isolation can make them seem like a mistake, but those plays don't happen in isolation. They are all part of the flow of the game and are needed to set up other plays and to make the defense have to keep defending against everything.

There's never been an NFL game in which the offense gained positive yards on every play. Even when a defense is being blown out, they occasionally win some plays.

Yup....those runs were to keep KC off balance, keep them near the line of scrimmage and in single coverage, then KM picked his time for the big plays, it worked brilliantly.....Saquon was so feared by KC, they kept putting guys near the LOS even after being burned repeatedly.....there is no question in my mind he should have been the regular season MVP and it really isn't close.....KM called a brilliant game....IMO

Honestly, it gave me flashbacks to when Kellen was QB for Boise State. They used to do the same thing and were successful with it. Keeping the defense on their heels was part and parcel of their success.

I'm glad we're going with someone up and coming. I did see some plays tonight that left me scratching my head; too many runs up the middle for nothing and sweeps to the short side of the field losing yardage. I hope he gets over that. You can't argue with the output though: 34 points from the offense in the Super Bowl is outstanding.
Spaggs is a pretty damn good DC.

Yeah, I'm sure Sirianni is pushing for him to stay. He doesn't want to lose a good coach and frankly if he wasn't pushing for him to stay, maybe we shouldn't be hiring him? Anyway, he can push all he wants but if the man with the money is saying he is going it likely means he's not going to give him a money offer he can't refuse. And why would he, Sirianni is supposed to be an offensive guy so I doubt Lurie wants to pay huge money for an OC when he already has a great OC as the HC.

Obviously it's not done until it's done and it could come down to more than money, but doubling or tripling his salary should calm down any issues. Still, I think we will all remain nervous until it's official.
