Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach (217 Viewers)

Probably slap me. I just think our front office has a tendency to underestimate our own talent and coaches. This seems like another one of those instances. And I’m tired of the Saints bleeding coaches to Sean Payton. Regardless, I know we’re moving on, but I just thought I’d say something for Rizzi.
Who are the other coaches "bled" to Sean Payton that we so desperately need? Pete Carmichael?

I think you're overvaluing the personality traits of coaches. Not that they can't be important, but it's not everything and not everyone with a certain personality trait is going to achieve the same success. Darren Rizzi is a good coach. Dan Campbell is a good coach. They are not the same people and there is no evidence that Rizzi would have any success at all as there wasn't before Campbell was hired by the Lions. I get that it's the gamble you believe is the right choice, but there aren't any other teams that are beating down the doors to talk to Rizzi for their HC. The Jets did a zoom meeting with him and that was it.

I get having a little bit of PTSD from DA, I have it a little bit too. But Kellen Moore is not DA anymore that Rizzi is Campbell. We have to let these guys be the individuals that they are. Moore by all accounts is a smart guy, who can design an offense, call plays, adjust to the roster he has and has the trust and respect of his players.

Darren Rizzi doesn't have all of those things. If he wants an HC job, he's going to have to branch out into offense or defense at a position less than coordinator and show he can do it. Even John Harbaugh had to move to being a defensive backs coach before being hired to be a head coach. Only two special teams coaches have ever been hired to be head coaches and both failed. Rizzi is a good guy, but he's not the guy we need.
Great response I’ll admit. I’d be talked off of a ledge if I were on one. I think what’s bothering me, is letting another talent slip away and be successful somewhere else. Baun, CJ, Hendrix, Dan campbell etc etc etc. Add in that Sean already rolled out the red carpet for Rizzi. Sean is completely aware that Rizzi will be with Denver, a month ago. (Because he and Mickey talk). Remeber Sean isn’t patient at all. Unless he knows he can be. So he didn’t hire an ST coach because he knows he’s getting the best one in 4 days. Anyway, I’m glad we can build up Denver’s staff. You know the team that totally destroyed and embarrassed us on our own home field? We’re sure putting a lot of hope on a 36 year old over coaches with 25 plus years coaching. But I will say this. I think Kellen Moore is head coaching material, I really do. I think it’s his destiny. So it may well be with us.

This was before the Thursday night game where they totally humiliated the Saints. There’s more that have gone since, and you can add in Rizzi in 4 days.

Ex-Saints now Broncos coaches/staff

  1. Mike Westhoff (assistant head coach)
  2. Pete Carmichael (senior offensive assistant)
  3. Joe Vitt (senior defensive assistant)
  4. Joe Lombardi (offensive coordinator)
  5. John Morton (pass game coordinator)
  6. Michael Wilhoite (OLBs coach)
  7. Jim Leonhard (DBs coach)
  8. Declan Doyle (tight ends coach)
  9. Chris Banjo (assistant special teams coach)
  10. Logan Kilgore (offensive quality control coach)
  11. Zach Strief (offensive line coach)
  12. Dan Dalrymple (head strength and conditioning coach)
  13. Cody Rager (V.P. of player personnel)
  14. Beau Lowery (V.P. of player health and performance)

Ex-Saints now Broncos players

  1. WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey
  2. WR A.T. Perry (practice squad)
  3. TE Adam Trautman
  4. TE Lucas Krull
  5. FB Michael Burton
  6. LB Kwon Alexander (practice squad)
  7. K Wil Lutz
  8. DL Jordan Jackson

So when will the coaching hire be announced? Will it be 5 minutes after the game has completed or the next day? If the Eagles lose, I hope it's 5 minutes. If they win, then give him a day to celebrate.

Sean is bringing in Rizzi because he knows Rizzi is a great st coach and he won’t be poached as a special teams coordinator. If Rizzi truly had his mind set on being a head coach someday he’d take a position coach role somewhere else. And he can’t stay here because authority has to be reset. The last head coach can’t work for the new one, especially when certain players have expressed loyalty to them. Bummer to lose a great special teams coach, but those are the breaks.

I’ve been thinking about that last part, could Rizzi just assume his old role? I think he could. You yourself say, it’s not about Rah Rah and a single high powered leader, it’s more about professionals being professional. If it’s the latter then he could just assume position. If you think about the worst case scenario. What, is AK going to cry to Rizzi, “Rizz, you know Kellen Moore is pretty hard on us..can you please tell him something….” Nah, that would never happen. But this just me wasting typing because Rizzi has been long gone already. He probably already has his stuffed moved to Denver.

And we need all those dudes back?

Adam Schefter sounds like he's practically calling More to Saints a done deal.

The thread title says "Kellen Moore has begun working on assembling staff". I can't find anything on that. Can someone point me to it?

After the Liam Coen Jags thing and Josh McDaniel a few years ago with the Colts, is anybody else worried that Moore gets cold feet in the next couple of weeks and we’re not only left at the altar but with tremendous damage to the reputation of this franchise. Moore’s going to be hearing a lot of opinions thrown his way by pundits who need something to talk about saying what a bad situation the Saints are in. Gonna be a nerve wracking couple of weeks.
We do have a bad situation going in cap wise, aging roster thats not winning excetera, but we can counter that with administration having a reputation of understanding circumstance and can be quite forgiving. Moore can come into this knowing he wont be thrown under the bus after one losing season.

And we need all those dudes back?
Sean is the head coach and OC. So the only main missing staff is Dc and STc. And if he didn’t have one, DA would be there. And we know Rizzi will be. So technically he’s got the same staff as he did here minus Mickey.

Nope, there could be a split in loyalty and we can't have that. One head coach at a time. If Rizzi wanted to stay in NO, he should have let somebody else be the interim. His days with the Saints are just about over, though I commend him for waiting it out to make sure Moore takes the job. I'd even prefer the other two remaining guys over Rizzi though.

I can't help but wonder about A.T. Perry. Part of me wonders if he's another talent we let go that could've become something special. But he's on the Broncos practice squad and its excessively rare that great talent sits on a practice squad. Especially when Payton himself is known for using walk-ons and putting them in position to excel if they have a specific skill set he can use.
