Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach (53 Viewers)

I would say it was done AS this was coming out. Within hours. I'm sure it was timed to coincide with Super Bowl week for impact.

Underhill pointed out that Moore is likely going to be questioned about this a ton by the media this week and that it's not really fair to him being that he hasn't even been hired yet and has nothing to do with it. If this thing grows legs over the course of the week with questions about the stability of the ownership and top executives, he may not see this as the opportunity he once did. Nobody would.

This was before the Thursday night game where they totally humiliated the Saints. There’s more that have gone since, and you can add in Rizzi in 4 days.

Ex-Saints now Broncos coaches/staff

  1. Mike Westhoff (assistant head coach)
  2. Pete Carmichael (senior offensive assistant)
  3. Joe Vitt (senior defensive assistant)
  4. Joe Lombardi (offensive coordinator)
  5. John Morton (pass game coordinator)
  6. Michael Wilhoite (OLBs coach)
  7. Jim Leonhard (DBs coach)
  8. Declan Doyle (tight ends coach)
  9. Chris Banjo (assistant special teams coach)
  10. Logan Kilgore (offensive quality control coach)
  11. Zach Strief (offensive line coach)
  12. Dan Dalrymple (head strength and conditioning coach)
  13. Cody Rager (V.P. of player personnel)
  14. Beau Lowery (V.P. of player health and performance)

Ex-Saints now Broncos players

  1. WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey
  2. WR A.T. Perry (practice squad)
  3. TE Adam Trautman
  4. TE Lucas Krull
  5. FB Michael Burton
  6. LB Kwon Alexander (practice squad)
  7. K Wil Lutz
  8. DL Jordan Jackson
The silver lining to viewing that list is that #s2 and 3 on the coaching list aren't exactly guys most fans wanted to see again around here anyway. And Lutz might be the lone player among the eight who can still be considered to be a bona-fide first-string starter in their prime.

I can't help but wonder about A.T. Perry. Part of me wonders if he's another talent we let go that could've become something special. But he's on the Broncos practice squad and its excessively rare that great talent sits on a practice squad. Especially when Payton himself is known for using walk-ons and putting them in position to excel if they have a specific skill set he can use.
I like AT he seems to play his best under the lights, and that’s what you want. IMO, his demeanor is a little off, it seems like he lacks confidence. But I believe it’s because he’s young, once he adapts and dedicates himself, the sky is the limit. And Sean knows this, that’s why he’s there. One thing about Sean, I always agreed with his talent evaluation. Whenever a free agent would break free, more than not, I knew if he’d go after the guy.

Right, but if the guy duplicates his situation just having a snowy background as the difference, then why is he gone?

The optics say PC and Vitt went there to retire, basically. And as for Perry, it's up to him to take advantage of his physical tools. At this moment in time, he's just another Tre-Quan Smith.

Right but Sean sees the potential and he believes in At. As do I. TQS was a blocking Wr. ATP flashed at catching 50/50 balls.

Kwon when healthy was a first stringer. He just really struggled to stay healthy. But overall I agree with your point.

Demario talks about Rizzi.

I just think the only point in hiring Rizzi would be to completely gut the roster, clear the cap and fire him after 1 year and choose a new coach next yr. If you like a guy this cycle (they do in Moore) then you just hire him and let him build/handle the roster the way he wants.

IMO a 36 year old LB, who's likely not here in 2 years, shouldn't be picking the HC.

I wonder if he was being coached the entire time he was here. When you hear that the Defensive Head Coach didn't even make sure to get his D Line coached, what chance does a UDFA WR have?

This place has a weird woody for AT Perry. He can't crack the Broncos active roster, and is behind the depth chart to former Saint lil' Jordan Humpheries, who a lot of the same posters that love Perry so much, criticized. He also is behind 27 year old rookie Devaugh Vele, a 7th round pick.

If AT Perry is so great, why is he still on a practice squad?

If Sean really believed in Perry he wouldn't have had him sitting on the PS where any team could take him. I will never get the fascination with AT Perry. He made some splash plays but he was never consistently good and he couldn't learn the playbook. He's not a good route runner and his only real skills are the ability to find spots in zones in multi-WR sets. If a team mans him up, he's toast because he runs bad routes and often runs the wrong routes. And he's only decent at contested catches because he's tall. He's not particularly strong.

The WR coach we got from the Ravens is pretty well thought of and he did good work considering the MASH unit we had a WR. He got MVS and Pettis up to speed very quickly. And I think he did a good job with Means. So, I think Perry had proper coaching. I just don't think he's anything special and that's why he was available in the 6th round. People just had expectations way too high for him based on him catching some deep balls later in his rookie year. He just doesn't have a lot of skills you need to be more than a guy you use for jump balls and fades due to his height.

They see a guy with good size and adequate speed that made a few nice catches in games, not realizing that there is a ton more nuance as to what makes a player a good NFL wide receiver.

All NFL wide receivers are capable of making SportsCenter highlight plays; it’s the nuance and consistency that determines if they’re a viable NFL player or not, much less a lineup regular.

The only data fans are privy to are those highlight plays. They don’t know what’s going on with him outside of that though, whether it’s in games, in practice, or in the meeting room.

The things happening outside of the highlight reel plays are what got him cut and it’s what has him stuck on the practice squad circuit behind players many deem to be not good.

How’s his route running, is he rounding him off, missing the wrong yard line on cuts over and over, what’s his assignment bust percentage, blocking, attitude, knowledge of his assignments and how to counter opponents’ assignments, how well is he releasing versus press, is he catching every catchable pass in practice consistently, etc.

I think you live in a world that thinks teams expect UDFAs that were picked up midseason to contribute right away. Sean saw enough potential to bring him in. AT wasn't polished, but he showed a lot more potential on the field when given the opportunity for the Saints than Cedrick Wilson ever did. The fact is that we haven't developed a player of any note since Sean left. And when your team isn't good, that's something you have to do. They gave up on him prematurely considering the lack of production of who was in front of him.
