Article Kellen Moore placing impact over position in NFL Draft

We have been drafting Oline/Dline in the 1st or 2nd round of every draft for a decade... We have beeeen building upfront... It's time for them to play up to that draft status... And see that "Impact" come to fruition.

Yeah this is a big issue. We never seem to get anyone late in the draft that develops into a good starter and the guys we invest in haven't turned into pro bowlers. Had Davenport, Turner, Foskey, Ruiz, Penning, worked out we would be looking forward to next year. McCoy was good, but our misses have really set us back.

Our skill players can currently be described as Old, Oft Injured, Light in the pants, Inconsistent, UDFA Hopefuls, Role players, or All of the above....

We have to start placing high draft capital into the skill positions if we want to have any hope of averaging more than 16 points a game, or having any hope of winning more than 5-7 games a year.... Or give our soon to be young QB (whoever that ends up being) anyone to throw or hand off to...

This isn't that hard... Impact.. Skill... Positions....

Seems like Moore gets that... I hope. "Impact over position" - Yeah coach... Yeah...
In SP's whole tenure here he drafted 2 rbs and 2 WRs in the 1st or 2nd rd. And how did our offense do?

That's what I'm saying coach....

He's saying what I have been saying.... "The skill position group, I kind of sometimes lump together. You just want impact players.”

That's not to say fat guys don't have impact... They do... But not on the level of a Stud Skill Position Player or QB....

And this team is in absolute desperate need of Offensive Impact Players...
Yes, I woukd argue that skilled offensive position players including qb make the O line better rather than a great O-line makes everyone better.

Great O-line with mediocre offensive weapons still makes for a bad offense.

The offense with the HOF QB? That offense did well….

When we have one of those again…. You may have a valid point.

At present…. We do not.
Even then come playoff time in Brees' later years not having a WR threat outside of Thomas and a mediocre TE group haunted the team.

Easy to say coming from a guy who had Hurts, Barkley, Brown, Smith, and Godert... and the best OL Ive seen in a while.

Build that here please.
Problem is at all of Kellen Moore's stops he didn't build those teams. He was handed already built teams. That is going to be the challenge for him is building a team.

Sounds like a fancy way of describing BPA. Just draft a good ball player. Do that every time it's your turn to pick. Don't get caught up in RAS and 40 times imagining what a prospect could be. Focus on what he is.

A few teams draft this way and those teams usually have good depth charts. Ozzie Newsome cracked the code on that one years ago.
