Article Landon Young could be in line for first career start at Guard vs Falcons; Allen, Benton, and Patrick have confidence in Young (1 Viewer)

It's going to be another long game with these OLine issues. The Saints are going to need some big plays from Olave and Shaheed.

Can Jahri Evans suit up again? I mean he is technically part of the team!

I've seen his ceiling as a player. It's reminiscent of a coffee table.
I don’t think Young has reached his ceiling yet especially in Kubiak’s scheme. He isn’t a surefire starting OL but he can range between serviceable to above average when needed. His footwork and blocking technique looks better suited for G than OT. He’s graded significantly better in the interior than at OT.

He’s done pretty good to be rostered for 4 seasons as a former 6th round OL. Thats not easy for linemen picked that late. We’ve normally released most 5th-6th round picks by their 2nd preseason prior to DA.
Right now, Young looks like a better 6th round pick than the last 3 Saints 6th rounders after him and the last 10 Saints 5th-6th rounders before him. There’s recent 3rd-4th rounders who were cut by the Saints before their 3rd season.

The real key here is to get five specific guys in five specific positions and practice like that for a full week so they know what the heck they are doing.

A bonus would be to have a backup guard for a guard who goes down, and a backup tackle for a tackle who goes down, etc. so they still know what the heck they are doing.

I still see Patrick @ C because he's gotten the most reps as a backup C. I would rather Young go in @ LG than Udoh. I have more faith in Young
Yeah, I agree. I think we've seen enough of Udoh to know we really don't want him getting starters reps. I think Young could be a pretty great fit at guard in this scheme, an absolute mauler and big run game asset when he's able to push to the 2nd level.

I also would much rather see L. Young in at G than Udoh. Udoh looked slow & definitely not starting material last week against the Eagles.
At least L. Young has shown he can play G & he has one of prerequisites of the position... Good feet!
