NFL League sets salary cap at record $279.2M for 2025 (12 Viewers)

We could bring back Young and actually save money if we keep his average salary at less than 15 million a year. Definitely someone I want back on something like a 3/40 deal in that range.

Adebo could be signed also and keep his first year low, depending on what his market is
The obsession with Young on this board, needs to be studied. I get the whole money angle, but I would definitely let that dude walk, and figure out another alternative

He’s 25 years old, and gets after the QB. Two things we sorely lack is youth and pass rushers. He is both. And for 15 million a year you’re not finding better than he is, those guys are getting 25-30 a year.

I disagree. He is young and he gets pressures, but he doesn’t get the QB down. Plus, it’s on film that he doesn’t hustle throughout plays. I’ve said it before, this dude has all of the tools to be a top notch DE in this league. However, there is something that lacks inside of him, that prevents him from being that guy. He’s become this young journeyman DE and that is cause for concern. Maybe he knows that his measurables and youth will always get him long hard looks from teams, that will net him a payday, but from what I’ve seen from him, on 3 different teams, I’m willing to say that he has shown everyone what and who is exactly is. Easy pass for me. I rather take my chances with someone else.

Young rushes too high. Maybe Bo Davis can smack the laziness out of him.

All true. I'm just saying that an extra $7 million is a mid-level free agent or a few lower level guys which we could really use given our injury problems and lack of depth.

But I would feel a lot better about our defense with Adebo and McKinstry at outside CB and Taylor in the slot. Along with a mid-level free agent, Young or someone better, on the edge.
That 7 mil could probably get us Javon Kinlaw a NT from the Jets

Yeah I think ideally we could bring back Young and Adebo while still keeping 15 million or so in cap space to play with (after draft pick signings).

That 15 million could go a long way to filling a couple holes so we can focus on other needs in the draft. With it I would target

Justin Reid, Safety 28 years old
Mekhi Becton OG 26 years old
Teair Tart DT 28 years old

Avoid anyone that’s 30+ and only sign guys who’s contract would be expired by the time they are 32. Just picking up those 3 guys would open the door where we could trade up for someone like Carter if he falls to 5-6 and still have picks left to address TE and WR.

A plan like this is possible what Loomis has in mind when he says we will be active but responsible.
I'm big on targeting a reliable long term guard to fit your scheme and settle in the oline.

Think you have to address the d-line as well. Have to get a starting caliber DE and DT might be a huge hole after cuts plus they surely need better scheme fits.

You didn't mention TE. I don't know if we have a day 1 starting TE right and you need two decent ones usually. So gotta do something there.

Those are my "Musts", they need to be addressed asap. Before the draft if at all possible. Plenty of needs to address as well. Safety, Nickle, x-WR, etc.

I'm thinking around 20 mil will cover their musts plus draft picks. Maybes more with some needs. They'll easily clear 20 mil without to much craziness. It fit right in with what Loomis said, more than last year but still modest. To be expected with a new head coach, new schemes and the number of holes on the current roster.
