Let’s be honest here (3 Viewers)

We lost that game as much as GB won it.

If Allen wins his next 22 straight games, he will have a .500 record.

I dont really want to hear about the if. If Allen had let Grupe try the long FG - instead of taking a delay and a punt - and he made it, it wouldve been a 3 possession game. But we prefer to punt and keep it a 2 possession game.

Agreed. I really thought we'd attempt that FG & allow Grupe to gain some confidence on the road.

Playing "safe" in the NFL has a way of coming back to bite you. We had GB in a coffin but didn't nail em shut.

I absolutely joked at the time "Whelp, here come the refs to help Vegas out"

I never thought it would end up in an L for us and I can't put it *totally* on the refs but... you're right. Without some iffy calls at the end, Packers drives die and we run out the clock
I am not worried about the referees as much, now that Payton is gone. The hatred Goodell has for Payton is well known. There is no longer any political reason for retribution, against the Saints.

However, I am sure there is against the Broncos. I am sure Goodell loved yesterday’s Broncos game.

Right but theres safe, and then well beyond that is Dennis Allen. Safe doesnt put games away. Safe doesnt extend drives to keep your defense fresh. Safe doesnt put any pressure on the opposing team.

Its mind blowing how passive he is. Its a huge reason he is one of the worst coaches in NFL history. I remember last year watching the playoffs thinking how bizarre it looked for playoff level teams to go for it on 4th down as often as they do. He wont change though. Its not in his DNA to be aggressive.

the defense let this game get away. there is no excuse for giving up 18pts in the 4th qtr and not getting a stop when we needed it. both TDs were players not executing, the miss tackle on 4th&Goal and the fade route CB never turned around. make any one of those plays and Saints win.

Its a bit short sighted to say that, but ultimately, sure. The defense was gassed because of decisions and lack of offense earlier in the game. Its a cumulative effect. They were on the field a while between 2 drives that bookended the Shaheed PR TD in the first half. We didnt sustain many drives, and had 7 punts. Allen shouldve sensed this.

Thats why I think the delay of game and punt was the turning point. Hell he couldve even just tried to pick up the 1st. A FG made it a 3 poss game, effectively the game wouldve been put away. Even with a gassed defense, there just wasnt time to flip a 3 possession game.

But we DennisAllen'd.

Something, anything to give your defense a rest. But he relied on the defense to the point he overworked them. Lafleur jumped on that and went hurry up, prevented substitutions.

Thats called strategy. Exploiting weaknesses. Lafleur simply outcoached Allen.

It's hard for me to understand the blame being placed anywhere but on our team. It's like some didn't watch the game.
To say that 45 yard penalty didn’t help their cause is ridiculous. I don’t recall us getting a 45 yard penalty..,,,do you?

I will be honest too. The Packers was really penalized in that game more so than us. It took a lot of big plays away from them that would of hurt us. Those calls against us at the end was correctly called. It was clearly pass interference by us.
Most of their penalties were presnap. I wonder if the NFL tries to "help" the behind time sometimes

Sure don't, I remember the 45 yard penalty that was bogus as well as the next one on the same drive. Then an offensive PI where the WR pushed off that wasnt called on GB (onveniently). both of those drives ended in touchdowns. You can argue they would have still scored but without those 3 plays they likely end up punting or at the very least take a FG.
