I've started listening to a live album on the patio every night with a few beverages. It's sort of a time out for my eyes after TV all evening these many days. I started off with Nirvana's MTV Unplugged album, which might be my favorite live album for reasons of nostalgia. This was followed by a couple Hendrix albums, Johnny Cash's album recorded in Folsom Prison and some jazz. I really dig listening for the voices in the crowd that stand out. It makes it easier to imagine having been there.

So far, this is what I have listened to:

MTV Unplugged, Nirvana
Live at Monterey, Hendrix
The Tigers have Spoken, Neko Case
Live at the Aladdin LV, Prince
Live at the Apollo, James Brown
How the West was Won, Zeppelin
Live at the Plugged Nickle, Miles Davis
Concert Behind Walls, Johnny Cash

Some others I have identified and cued up for future listening...

MTV Unplugged, Jay-Z
MTV Unplugged, Korn
MTV Unplugged, a-ha
MTV Unplugged, Maxwell
MTV Unplugged, Lauren Hill
Do it Live, Sonny Knight
Alive!, Kiss
Budoka , Cheap Trick
One Night Stand, Sam Cooke

What else?

Also, check out the OZ broadcast of old Jazz Fest sets all weekend. It has been really good.

unplugged AIC, Nirvana and Clapton all fantastic

Tesla unplugged, though I have not listened to it in years.

Frampton comes alive, obvious but always good.

one of the first songs I ever remember swiping off of Napster was Aaron Lewis Outside. It wasn’t Stained I don’t think but it blew the studio version away. Killer voice.

almost always prefer studio versions

that usually holds true for attending live
the live music i prefer to recorded:
nightclub jazz
fest music, especially brass bands
music the band wants you to dance to

i have a working assumption that the band never wants me to dance, or wouldn’t if they saw me.

Coincidentally I happen to be listening to another that I didn’t think of. The Meters live on the Queen Mary. I think it was Linda and Paul’s wedding in fact. Great album.

Nirvana Unplugged is my favorite.

Nirvana Live at Reading is good on YouTube.

You can't go wrong with Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison.

Was just going to post this....that album changed the way I looked at the Allmans and music in general....IMO the best live album ever recorded....
