Loomis: Missed tackles are a lot more common league wide b/c of the lack of padded practices. (29 Viewers)

The Dennis Allen led Saints are 1-8 in their last nine 1-score games.

1-8.
It looks slightly better when looking at his whole time coaching the Saints where he is 8-14, which is pretty close to his over all win/loss percentage as a head coach between both the Raiders and Saints. Most of the wins (5) came in 2022 his first year as coach when it was still largely Payton's left over team. He's been 3-8 in one score games since then.

That isn't the kind of record you want to have.

The thing is that tackling is something that is learned very young. So they all know how to do it. They just need to remember to do it in game. But it is a balancing act, you want them to try to strip the ball, but first you have to tackle. And, in the end, it's really an effort issue that is going to get worse when guys get tired or lose confidence in their coach and start just playing out the game or season. I will say that Alontae Taylor had an injured shoulder so that could have been part of his issues, but the rest had no excuses.
While what we saw in the second half was indeed inexcusable, I have to think them expending so much energy trying to get back into the game in the first half, they just ran out of gas in the second half. The defense was on the field for long stretches and on top of all that, it was a short week.

It's about to get worse as it's another short week this week.

Wow if that isn't an indicator that Allen is here to stay.... GM blaming practice without pads reason for missed tackles...

Tackling is a diminishing skill. If you don't practice it enough, you can get worse at it. I get the point he's making, not sure if that was what contributed this past weekend.

Anyone expecting a pro sport GM to just spill the tea about his coaches and players to the public is delusional

They gave up three long drives in the first half that accounted for 22 plays, 221 yards, 17 points and 11:49 in clock time. Along with other drives that took up another 3:30 of clock time for a total of 14:41 on the field. That is roughly 50%. Can the defense not spend that much time on the field? TOP for whole game wasn't even that lopsided, certainly not like the week before. A huge part of that was because they couldn't get themselves off the field.

It's possible it was just that they were worn out on a short week after a Monday night game and being on the field a lot without much in the way of backups to rotate in. And yes, it's going to be worse on a really short week this week. But at some point losing 3 or 4 games in a row is going to wear on players. And with all the late losses they have had I can see the players being in "oh no not this sheet again" mode later in close games. Because the game was close until they started missing all those tackles.

Maybe they haven't quit on DA yet, but if they lose this one that's 5 in a row after two years of mediocrity and frustration. I'm not sure how he keeps them engaged at that point.

A lot of it was their own fault but they were still on the field a lot and it was a short week with no backup to rotate in. Still tackling is a fundamental that you just can't let slip and lots of times it looked like they were barely trying.

Certainly do not remember the bucs missing as many tackles as we did.

Underhill was on OTB this morning. Pretty much said the excuse at the end of the year will be injuries. That he put very good odds on Dennis Allen coming back again next year. Basically said they would probably extend Kamara for two years and run it back again. Essentially said they will point to the two games in the beginning of the year and say they were a good team when healthy and mention all the injuries they had. Just like most of us here said the lack of hitting on quality draft picks, especially those along the defensive line, especially defensive end Has left us very lacking in depth. Get ready to run it back again next year guys and girls.
Welp, I starting checking out after the falcons loss so guess it’s time to not take into account the game when making plans until GM and HC changes occur. At some point, reporters and fans just need to be in their face all the time. Some of these reporters that charge for content are going to be SOL unless they play villains with interviews and actually challenge dumb a$$ answers from this team.

People will find a way to blame Kubiak for the defense routinely giving up things like 2nd and 34, 3rd and 10.

The Bucs had 72 offensive plays, 10 of those were 3rd downs and they converted 6 of those. Most of the game they were getting it done on 1st and 2nd down for a total of 31 1st downs.

Can't give up 3rd and long if the other team is never in 3rd down
