Louisiana to seek "wasteful spending" for NOLA-BR high-speed rail (1 Viewer)

A Boeing 777?

On the other hand, I wish Americans cared as much as they should about infrastructure, China would have this built in a few weeks.

We're past our prime. Americans cared about this stuff 100 years ago. We even tolerated it 50 years ago. But could you imagine trying to get congress to fund something like the interstate system in today's political climate?

They'd have to stop buying bombs, planes and ships to fund something like infrastructure improvements. And then folks would get jobs to do that work. The middle class might expand. Can't have that. Everyone knows you can only create jobs by giving tax breaks to billionaires.

This is basically my answer.

"I'll never use it so it must be bad!"

We all expect it from our politicians, but I hate seeing our citizenry acting like such dullards over large scale projects. We don't get many chances to lead the pack but sometimes it seems like we're more comfortable tripping over our own two feet.

Its going to happen eventually. Its dumb not to do it now while it would he cheaper and the Feds are/were willing to chip in a large sum. If the day-to-day cost is too much, you reduce the frequency and find a source to subsidize it like we did the Saints.

We do this for most large projects. Baton Rouge would have a loop by now and I-49 would have been built 20 years ago. It seems there's a stigma with investing in our infrastructure.

I don't agree with this. It's not the job of infrastructure to turn a profit. You don't turn a profit from I-10, I-20, and I-12 but we're quick to add lanes to them. What is earned is the indirect investment from said infrastructure improvements and it sickens me that Louisiana doesn't see the potential there.
