Just saw that we signed Lynn Bowden to the active roster. He will be suiting up Monday night

Why? Is a receiver hurt? A special teamer? Is Taysom hurt? I am confused as to what we need this guy for.

Special teams/returns would be my guess, especially if Olave’s calf is bothering him (which would mean you don’t want Shaheed returning as much). I can’t imagine seeing much of him otherwise unless they’re fazing Shaheed out of KR’s.

My guess is just they weren't impressed with Shaheed fumbling the opening kickoff and getting stuffed behind the 25 on other kick returns. And why risk injury on a return to an asset on offense when he's not doing well on returns anyway?

Never made sense to have Shaheed returning kicks ever since he showed his ability as a receiver. That should have been the end of that last year.

Because Shaheed is such an offensive weapon, we (or at least me and a couple of others) have been wishing for someone to take his place on ST.

I think it's less about Rashid's performance on kickoffs and more of a value decision. With the fair catch rule + Rashid's value to the offense, I could see the coaches being content to let someone else field kicks while keeping Rashid on punt return.

Just re-hire Lance Moore and tell him to fair catch all the time.

It would sacrifice all the electrifying returns up to the 27 yard line, but would be safer in terms of injuries, penalties, turnovers, and field position.

Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles come to mind as comparisons. Neither of them were used much on KOR bc they had valuable roles on offense, but they did rerurn punts. It's not uncommon.

I remember Triplett (I believe) saying in an interview that someone else was supposed to be doing returns. This is when Shaheed was injured not too long ago. Like he referenced the plan going forward was for someone else to do returns. I could try and dig up the interview

I think it’s time for Sheed to leave special teams and focus on offense. Bowden was the return guy in preseason

Why not have Kirk Merritt out there to field the KR duty role, if your just going to utilize the fair catch rule.

TQS. He was moved to IR, freeing up a spot. i would imagine this guy will be a Special teaser, possibly taking Rashid Shaheeds spot, while Shaheed focuses on just WR. In other words, myself and others are predicting no more Shaheed on returns.

Thats just speculative though.
