During training camp, New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton once referred to undrafted rookie free agent running back Chris Ivory by the wrong name.
He mistakenly called him “Ivy,’’ suggesting the young player had not made a favorable impression.
Apparently, it was no mistake at all but rather a cryptic slip of the tongue from a coach who seldom lets his tongue slip without reason.
“I think he was calling me ‘Ivy’ because I was getting a lot of IV’s,’’ Ivory said Friday, referring to the intravenous fluids that typically are administered to rehydrate players during the dog days of summer camp.
