Which begs the question, how did Hoover acquire it in such a manner that lead him to believe it could include JFK?

Yeah, Hoover spent a lot of time (and money) trying to get the goods on the Kennedys. Using the FBI to gather dirt for blackmail wasn't invented by Nixon. It's what gave Hoover his power.

Somewhere in the still-locked JFK files is the testimony of those "experts" that Hoover brought in to identify the man in the tape. I imagine that would make for some hilarious Comedy Channel material.

The only reason why I think there's a remote possibility that the man in the tape could be JFK or RFK is that filming yourself in the act with Marilyn Monroe would be the ultimate in ego trips.

It would be a dangerous indulgence in highly risky personal behavior. If nothing else, that's a Kennedy family trademark.

You're aware of the rumors about him as well, right? That while he was acting as the high-and-mighty enforcer of American purity and virtue in public, he indulged in homosexual behavior (totally illegal at the time) in private with his lifelong friend, Clyde Tolson. He never married. He and Tolson were buried side-by side.

There's a famous quote by Richard Nixon, upon hearing of Hoover's death. Can't quote it here. Look it up.

UPDATE - The guy who brokered the deal says it was 16mm, not 8mm.

So, what does that mean? Three things: A more expensive film, a bigger more expensive camera and better detail/resolution.

Still, the 16mm format has been around and available home movie makers since the 1920s.

I have some good Kennedy stories. Used to earn money in grad school as a waiter for a DC catering company.

I got assigned to private dinners at Hickory Hill -- the Kennedy mansion in McLean VA inhabited by RFKs ex, Ethel.
