Matt Ryan, so long for that elite talk (3 Viewers)

No, if Brees has Ryan's weapons he would have won that game. Even taking Sean out of the equation (Shannahan earned his HC gig), Brees would have won that game.

How much of that game was decided by Mack being hurt though? He wasn't the same guy as he normally is due to his playing with an injury.

1/8 on third down. What should have been the falcons game sealing drive resulted in them getting the ball to the Patriots 22 yard line... and then punting. Think about how far backwards you have to go to be forced to punt.

Ryan lost them the game. He couldn't deliver when he had to.

Sums up his entire career.

I've always thought Ryan was a good QB but he needs great receivers to make him look good. He has one of the most dominant WR's in recent history, two extremely shifty RB's and solid no. 2 and 3 receivers. He doesn't make his players better like Brees, Brady, and Rodgers do. Hell, I wouldn't even say he's better than Phillip Rivers at this point.

Imagine if he had the Saints or Patriots wide receivers in past years. I doubt he could make them elite and Ryan would look like a joke.

Eh, I thought Ryan played well tonight. Much better then I thought he would.

Is he the best in the NFL? Far from it....but I do think he is a very good QB.

he had a 144.8 QB rating

but took the horrible sack there at the end

and it still is a travesty that Drew would be at least the third QB in our division's current crop of QBs to win NFL MVP when he should've been the first

Weapons over player. If Brees/Brady/Rodgers had what Matty Hype had this year, 11-5 would be their BASEMENT in what their season record would be.

The dude played as great as humanly possible while still losing. Messiah Brady almost had a fumble too had he gotten hit a millisecond quicker. I hate on ATL all the time, but lets be real Ryan isn't the reason why the game ended the way it did.

Matt Ryan played well, I don't understand this thread.

Yes, they lost, but did Ryan lose the game? The defense was gassed in the second half and the Patriots took advantage of that.

Agree. My Falcons buddy is down on him for not over ruling the pass call and ensuing sack that begin taking them out of FG range (the holding call for sure did). I do wonder what a Montana, Favre, Brady, Brees would have done in that situation. It was stupid to call a pass play but even stupider to take a sac. Run it , or kneel it or whatever but man that was killer.

Kyle Shanahan with the boom drop right at the end of his time in Atlanta

that was some HORRIBLE play-calling at the end of the game

from the point the Falcons get up 25 points... they run the ball only 4 more times the rest of the game... that was the big mistake.

An Elite QB doesn't take *that* sack to push his team out of clinching FG range. He held on to the ball way too long. Simple.

Say what you will about poopy pants, but be real. He is the only QB that HANDILY beat us not once but twice this year. I felt that we were in every game this year except for those two. Granted we did claw our way back into the second at the end but they put it on us and we know it.

It's basically like the difference between an A and an A plus. Matt Ryan is a good QB and they have the best WR in the NFL and a deadly running game. Their offense was the only one in the NFL on par with the Saints.

Win a playoff game outside your own building before you even start the "elite" conversation.

As far as I am concerned, with blown leads of 20, 17 and 25 points in the playoffs, he's still well-lodged in the "empty numbers" category.

Did you miss what David Carr did to us in our season opener?
