Maybe DA not so bad afterall? (4 Viewers)

I wasn’t sure this deserved its on thread, but I couldn’t find a thread it belonged in.

Over the last few years there has been some disconnect between fans who think the Saints “Suck” and older fans who say “you don’t know what suck looks like”. Here is the perfect stat to sum it up. As bad as the DA era was, out of 18 coaches in franchise history, DA is the 5th winningest coach in franchise history.

Ok now tell me where he ranks all time in the NFL.

he’s one of the worst head coaches in NFL history and was by far the worst currently

I’ve always said this about Allen, even when attempting to defend him from criticism - I believe that Allen is a very good Xs and Os defensive coach. Obviously there were some issues with late-game failings but overall he took a really terrible defense and brought it into the upper-quarter of the league.

Where Allen failed, in my opinion, is that his head coaching style is a relic in the modern NFL.

Young players respond more to young or fiery coaches. The stoic “awe shucks” guy isn’t as effective as it was 25 years ago.

That’s not criticism of Allen, it just is what it is.

That’s why I’m really curious to see if Rizzi can keep the fires burning.

Getting a team juiced with a new coach and for the arch rivals is one thing - keeping them juiced for an uncommon opponent that is also struggling is something else.
Shanny is not firey nor is Reid. Both types along with in between can be successful

sorry for the grain of salt with Falcons win.. as da was 2-0 first 2 weeks of both seasons.
Interim hC, are a very high win percentage the first week.. not so miuch thereafter.

It's the head coaches job to set an identity. When people go to Pittsburg they know, we are going to run the ball, hit the odd deep pass, and punish you with our defense. Tomlin has established this.

I have no idea what the identity of the Saints was supposed to be the last 3 years.

And I think this is why they players, despite DA have a huge football intellect, just never responded to him like they could have.
