Meanwhile Sean Payton is Sean Paytoning in Denver {Thread from September Bumped } (8 Viewers)

Yeah, but he didnt coach any of those teams for 16 seasons, either and essentially decide to quit by way of claiming "burn-out", then seemingly magically he regained his old tenacity, persistence, egotism. LOL! I appreciate what Payton did for this franchise, team, organization and city for 16 seasons, but I seriously doubt he even knows the meaning of the word " burnout". Burn-out former NFL HC's include guys like Dick Vermeil in Philly and John Madden at the end of the 1978 season in Oakland when his doctor told him one way he might be able to rid himself of persistent stomach pain was maybe retire. Dick Vermeil was sleeping in his office for months and over-working himself mentally and physically, next to a film projector in his last season as Eagles HC. His epiphany was when he showed up late in the 1982 strike-shortened season in his parking spot and literally could not get himself out of the car he was so stessed out. He didnt coach again for another 14 years.

That's true, legitimate burnout. What Sean Payton had was "I don't want to be a HC anymore". The longest period of time Parcells ever spent with one team was the one he had the most success with and won two SB's, the New York Giants. He left the Patriots partly due to power-sharing disagreements and kinda mutual dislike of Robert Kraft. Those two never quite got along even from the very beginning.
Burnout after sixteen years/fifteen seasons in the same place is very plausible and it’s most likely to happen.

He didn't learn very well apparently, the longest Parcells was with a team was 8 years (Giants).....CSP was here 16 years.....

Also, this has to be one of the all time didn't age well posts.....
How has this aged poorly?
Parcels did jump from team to team.

I was just arguing that Payton's "burnout" was very conveniently-timed for him to leave a team and organization that he knew would be in deep cap trouble (of which he was partially responsible for) and which would handicap its ability to attract and sign good, high-quality FA's at certain positions that would improve our teams' potential to compete at anything beyond a 9-8/10-7 at very best level for 3-4 years. He wasn't "burned out" at being a NFL HC, just here in New Orleans and once the right job popped up, his shell-shock and mental, psychological fatigue magically seemed to vanish.

Again, I'm not 100% sure Sean Payton right now knows what the word "burnout" really means from a substantiative human perspective like Dick Vermeil, John Madden, Allie Sherman, Bob Stoops to a certain extent at Oklahoma. "Burn out" as a NFL HC is equivalent to meaning you are so mentally, emotionally-charged, physically involved in a job that you succeed at for so long begins to turn toxic. It becomes all-consuming in that everything else in your life: be it family, friends, faith, your own emotional and physical well-being, becomes secondary. Vermeil in his last two seasons as Eagles HC rarely went home to see his wife and children, even during the off-season. AssiatIants and Eagles players like Ron Jaworski, Wilbert Montgomery, Harold Carmichael would report to work at Eagles training facilities/offices and see Vermeil sleeping in his office, next to his film projector, for months on end. Ad nauseam to the point that if Vermeil hadn't stepped down after the 1982 season, he mightve had a nervous breakdown, a heart attack or stroke.

He couldn't handle it anymore just like John Madden couldn't after retiring from Oakland several years earlier and while Vermeil did eventually coach again, it wouldn't be for another 14 years in a different city, different team and a very different NFL.

Does anyone realize the Broncos could potentially lose out and miss the playoffs?
Sure we do, but that's not the point of this thread. Pretty sure know one really things the Broncos are SB contenders.

The OP posted this thread months ago win the Saints where 2-0 and the Broncos where 0-2. He though it would be funny to dump on SP when things looked so very different for these teams early in the season.

Much of the discourse after that has rightfully called out how badly this take has aged. Regardless if they make the playoffs are not, what SP has done in Denver in his second season, considering the obstacles placed in front of him with the Russel Wilson contract, has been very impressive.

Parcels did jump from team to team.

Parcells has been with 4 teams over 19 years.....CSP will have been with 2 teams over 19 next year....I believe the person I replied to was trying to compare the 2.....which makes no sense, unless suddenly CSP decides to leave the Broncos for another team (he won't) and then another team (he won't) in the next few years....

The post has aged poorly because it was a foolish attempt to criticize CSP (in an attempt to boost what was the DA coaching staff) 2 games into a long, unpredictable NFL season.....it was a definite pattern among the DA supporters, tear CSP down to elevate DA, and I never really understood it, it was dumb IMO.....

Yes, but they have a better future outlook than us. They have a franchise quarterback for the next 10+ years and a solid defense.
They have hope we do not.

I would only argue that Payton and Denver have to deal with Mahomes and Herbert for the next decade or so.
At least with the Saints, the division is a clean slate. For the most part.

Actually we play in a more winnable division and they're gonna be dealing with Mahomes and Harbaugh/Herbert for a while. Ntm they will have to deal with the AFC North and Dolphins for any wild card help.

Shouldn't it be more disappointing for us that we were unable to do anything against this division?
I think we addressed coaching last off-season and OL. This board wanted OL and OC. Not many were thinking about weapons, which we now know is a real concern now. A good pass rusher to go with Breese as well. We need a chain mover or short field creator and that may make a difference.

As bad as it is right now, I’d be more disappointed knowing that my team would have to face Mahomes twice a year for the next decade.

You think Mahomes is playing for another 10 years, while he’s in his 8th season, already has 3 chips, and a part ownership in the Royals?
He doesn’t have to play another 10. If this dude pulls off a 3-peat, he’s already in GOAT status by the masses.
