Mike Garafolo: Saints are set to make a decision on Derek Carr within the next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if released (63 Viewers)

I’m ALL for getting rid of Carr if he’s replaced with someone better. That’s how it’s always been on every team. I like Rattler but he’s a fifth round pick and he flashed last year. However, I cannot say that he’d be better than Carr given time. I think when professional teams make decisions to go with the younger Qb, they are usually right. I don’t know if we’re at the point in claiming Rattler as our franchise Qb. With that said, I have a feeling Carr is done in Nola. He sat out games last year to avoid injury, just like he did with the Raiders. And we know how that turned out.
I don’t think Rattler is the answer, barring a miracle draft the team will most likely struggle mightily next season. Which is why I’d have no problem moving Carr or benching him if they choose to. Need to just grind it out get the cap right, as much as possible, and draft well.

He didn’t voluntarily sit out games with the Raiders to avoid injury. The Raiders knew they were going to trade or cut him after the season and so wouldn’t play him because they were afraid of the injury.

I don’t recall him sitting out games this year as a healthy scratch.

The issues is to move on from Carr (if cut) would very much screw 25-26 season because we would have no room left for any FA moves. But if we cut him our cap next year is good and 27 season is really good.

We gonna have to bite the bullet, period.

I wouldn’t have blamed the FO for encouraging Rizzi to sit Carr even if he could play. His $30m base in 2025 is guaranteed for injury, putting us into a similar situation compared to the Raiders when they were considering whether to move on.

The decision is simple Rattler deserves the start next year to see if he can develop with starters at the pro level. If bad we look for new qb in 2026
Rattler looked good for one half ... other than that the offense never scored more than 20 points in all his starts.

I wouldn't bank a season on someone like that. Unless our intention is to tank the season for a high draft pick in 2026

The post I was responding to claimed that Carr made the decision to sit out. Not the team.

The last three games he could’ve played, imo.

The article states the salary cap hit with him on the roster, but what's the hit if we cut him?

I think the tank will be rolling whether intentional or not. And I’m perfectly fine with that. Draft well, see what ya have with Rattler or Haener and start getting the cap right. Then nail the top 3 pick in 26.
