5 Reasons ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Became a Record-Breaking Box Office Success

After "A Minecraft Movie" rocked the box office, here are five takeaways from opening weekend.

The movie is extremely popular amongst high school and college kids. My son (21) and daughter (19) are forcing my wife and I to take them when we’re together for Easter weekend. I think it’s similar (not exactly the same), but similar to many of us when Marvel or DC movies first started hitting. Nostalgia and seeing one of their favorite games come alive on the screen are both likely a huge factor.

I bought tickets for a 7 pm showing Sunday night at a show which sold out about 6-7 hours before the film started. I had ZERO interest in going to watch this movie, but the wife wanted to take the kids cause they wanted to see it so bad. An hour before the movie, my oldest asked if his friend could join us. So I gave his friend my ticket. I came off like the hero and didn't have to go watch a movie I didn't want to watch.

That's my minecraft movie experience.

Saw it with my kids this weekend. Wasn't bad. Some adult humor injected to keep parents entertained. Plot is predictable as all get out, of course. Jack Black is . . .. Jack Black, so you know what you're getting. I actually liked Mamoa in this - comedic role as a burnout who peaked in high school. He was funny.

Not a Minecraft gamer, so YMMV.
