N/S MNF: Seahawks vs Lions (1 Viewer)

Whew, glad I changed my pick to the Lions at the last minute. I dunno what I was thinking.

ETA: And no sooner I post this than the Squawks score. I dunno what I was thinking.

I missed the explanation. Why wasn't it a penalty?
Horse collar tackles are allowed in the pocket. I’m not sure if it’s just for QBs or if it includes RBs.

I’m surprised that more players don’t do it more if it’s allowed.

That makes no sense to me. They have so many rules to protect the qb yet they allow horse collar tackles just because he's in the pocket? I thought horse collar tackles were penalized due to the high risk for severe injuries. Go figure.

The horse collar penalty was created after Roy Williams injured Terrell Owens in 2004, along with some other high profile injuries. Yanking someone down by the collar while they are running apparently creates a high risk of knee and leg injuries.

The QB in the pocket is not running, so the injury risk is not the same as yanking down a WR or RB from the collar or nameplate while he's running down the sideline.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I still think it's a bad rule. Even if he’s not running there's still a chance of injury when someone's body is suddenly and forcefully jerked like that.
